Should I Replace Coils?
Looking to change my plugs. While I am at it, should I change coils too. I have a 15 GTS with 25K miles.
Suppose it can't hurt, but is it a waste of money.

Here is my thinking on the coil issue. First, there is no guidance that I have been able to find regarding when to replace these parts unless they fail. Second, the big issue is if heat buildup destroys the insulation insert. I suggest that you purchase a set of coils and if you determine that they have deteriorated when changing out plugs, then replace. The other issue is how you drive. If you track your car and invest significant $$ in DE or track days, then it might be more prudent to change them out. It is better to spend a few hundred $$, than waste track fees, club fees and hotel costs. Good luck. FWIW, I change out my plugs every year and replaced my coils after three.

Like Kelsey said. If not cracked, don't bother changing. But change plugs at recommended intervals. I have an 09 Base Boxster with 125,000Kms-no issues. You will know if coils need changing-uneven idle, cracks seen . I believe this applies to coils post 2009. Enjoy your ride
