So much discussion on CPO vehicles lately, what I haven't seen explained and what appears to contain more than its share of ambiguity is when does the 2 year unlimited mile extension actually take effect. I've always been of the understanding that a CPO warranty begins when the factory warranty ends therefore, if one was to purchase a "high" mileage vehicle, for example, a vehicle with an in service date of January 2018 with just under 50K miles, the CPO would become effective almost immediately due to mileage and the entire term of warranty including CPO would expire on or about Jan 2022, only 4 years from original inception date. Others have said that as long as the original warranty is still in place, the mileage limitation is removed from original warranty and the new buyer would benefit for the full 6 years with unlimited miles from original inception date/sale or for the aforementioned example, warranty expiration would be Jan 2024.

You don't go in and buy a CPO, that's applied by the dealer to a car they are selling. Costs the dealer about $ 3,500 last I heard. So if you currently own a car, you are not going to add it on. However, if you are buying a used one from a Porsche dealer, they may or may not CPO it, that can be negotiated sometimes. The actual CPO kicks in right as the original warranty expires based on either time or mileage. Yes, you get basically a 6 year, no mileage warranty.

Sorry but no. The original warranty can lapse. In such a case, CPO starts when the dealer submit the paperwork to Porsche.

And a dealer can still CPO a CPoed car so long as it is within the year limits (don't know about mileage) set by Porsche

You get the longer of these two options:

1. Six years and unlimited mileage from original in-service date if the car is still under factory warranty at the time of CPO purchase.

or

2. Two years and unlimited mileage from the date of purchase if the factory warranty expired prior to CPO purchase.

That was the explanation I was looking for. I'm aware that it's not something you can add to a vehicle you already own as well as the expense a dealer has for adding CPO to a vehicle for sale. Just to recap, if the vehicle one is purchasing is still under factory warranty and is being sold as a CPO, the new buyer gets the benefit of the full 6 years from "in service" date along with unlimited miles even if the vehicle exceeds the 50K mileage threshold prior to 4 years from in service date.

If a vehicle is purchased CPO prior to the original warranty expiring the 4 years and 50K miles no longer apply. It becomes 6 years and unlimited miles from original in-service date.
