My 911S compared to my new Audi E-Tron
I bought a new Audi E-Tron on December 17th, because I wanted to get into a fully electric car and Tesla just wasn't doing it for me with the interior build of the vehicles. I'm used to Porsche / BMW / Audi quality and the E-Tron delivers on it.
I have been enjoying this new vehicle more than I have liked any other new car in a very long time. It's nickname is "Spaceship One" and everyone seems to get a huge kick out of it when we go somewhere. I'm afraid I've crossed over into EV world and will probably never buy another ICE engine vehicle again.
I drove the 991 into work today, first drive since I got the E-Tron. On the way in I thought "How should I compare and contrast?" I think I have it.
Imagine right after WW2 when the USA had the P-51D Mustang, arguably the finest performing piston engined fighter ever made. Then the guys that stayed in the service transitioned into jets, the F-80 Shooting Star. A totally different aircraft, unlike anything they experienced before. And from that day forward, it was nothing but jets up to an including today. Sure, there are still guys that own and race those P-51's and there's a big, quaint thrill to them. A nod to an era gone by. Not boring, but its no F-16. Today I just climbed back in the tail-draggin', shakin' and bakin' P-51 after a couple of weeks in a jet. It felt good, but it felt old.
As my wife said the other day "Your Porsche is a bucket of bolts next to the E-Tron".
I will be looking forward to the day Porsche makes an all-electric 911, that will be my next sports car. Until then, the old prop plane will stay in the garage and come out for nostalgic sunny days, but probably not get much use.

Nice car! I wonder what the future holds for exotic car values once we get electrified. I had a customer offer...rather INSIST I drive his Tesla Model S and I was surprised how fun it was. Then I got the wife a Model X and as you said it is a game-changer. Electric cars are so NON FATIGUING. Get on the freeway, hit cruise control, and just steer. I don't use FSD yet.
I need to go look at the E-tron. Congrats.

No offense buddy but comparing an electric station wagon to a 911 is well, silly. Im not against e cars and actually considering a Bolt for the time i spend at our second home.

They are indeed great fun... right up until you run out of battery on a long road trip. Then having sit and twiddle your thumbs while it charges kind of take the fun out of it.

Talk to me when range is 500+ miles. Otherwise, there simply is no conversation to be had, imho

That's amazing! Your 991 goes 500 + miles on a tank of gas. I wonder what's wrong with mine? It only goes around 325 miles before I have to stop and fill up.
Manhattan Grey - good guess!

Currently driving a Tesla X and while I really like it, charging sucks. I have been trying to keep it charged as much as possible in case I have to go somewhere. It gave me a warning message yesterday saying that to get the best battery longevity I should only charge it the amount I need for the day. Great, so what if I need an extra 100 miles, you know like a 50 mile trip to pick something up? Sure I can find a supercharger and sit for 1/2 hour but it might not be so simple and could be pretty inconvenient.
The early jet fighters while high performing were limited in range and quite finicky to run/maintain.

I bet my dryer sounds better and it doesn't require charging!
Teasing aside, I'm glad you like your new toy.
Does it buzz or emit any sounds whatsoever? Can you upload any sounds you want? This is a serous question.
I would consider an electric car when charging stations become ubiquitous and the cycle as quick as topping off with gas.
That said I'll always have an ICE sports car on the garage, naturally-aspirated one, of course...

A 991.2 manual will do 500 miles on the highway--and at 80 mph. But you must be willing to run down to your last gallon of fuel and have the wit to use seventh gear.
