Default 3.0 Ticking when cold???

So while out shopping for 991.2 today I found a 4s that had a ticking sound at idle. I know the car had not been started for a while and it was in the low 70s for a high today. The dealer said after I left when they brought it to service to have it checked at my request the noise was gone. They are going to leave it outside tonight and start it tomorrow to see if it does it again. It was not a fuel injection type of ticking. Is this common??

Yes, common and normal under those conditions.

Mine ticks until I have the oil temp up to 180 for a few minutes.

Common/normal and discussed in multiple other threads. Oil drains down from the lifters when the car sits for a while. Switching from 0W-40 to 5W-50 virtually eliminated the ticking in mine (it often sits for many days) but it still has the cold ticking sometimes.

Timely thread. I noticed mine ticking this week and wondered what it was. I had not heard it before but I rarely get out to do something and leave it running.

Normal. But I recently switched from Mobil-1 to Liquid Molly (same viscosity) and the ticking is gone unless the car sits for a week or more (which only happens if I'm traveling out of town). Not trying to turn this into another oil thread, but it did quiet things down for me.

Agree with above. Just watch out for the guys who may try to convince you that it is a scored cylinder wall. lol.

Same here, a couple weeks ago the dealer put M1 5/50 in as per my request and the lifter noise is basically gone, all of the time whether hot or cold.
