The original GT cars were names a such because they were driven to racetracks to compete in Grand Prix's and drive home. That's the perfect definition of a 911. Also further dilutes the GT vs Sports car debate. One could also argue that sports cars are lighter than GT cars. The 991 is lighter than a 997. People juxtapose the size delta when in reality there is hardly any - the proportions are more modern and better laid out which does give a visual appearance of looking larger than the actual delta.

Pose the same question to the 997 people and the testimony will be the 997 is the one to get. Also, the 996 is even more analog and smaller and perhaps more sportscary? And also the 993 and 356, etc.

If you’re racing, you want a race car, not a sports car.

Sports car can become race cars. GT cars, not so much....ahem...M6 GT3....
