PPI with paint meter reading
Always get a pre purchase inspection from an independent 3rd party that includes a paint meter reading. This holds true for cpo cars as well as 3 panels can be repaired and the car still cpo'd. See the car in person before cutting a check.

I just wanted to let you all know how this story ended. The link to the car in question is down now, but here are the highlights:
• 2018 Base Coupe
• Carerra White
• Black interior
• 4,600 miles
• PDK
• Sport Exhaust
• LED Headlights
• Power Steering Plus
• 14-way seats
• Premium Package Plus
• Bose
• Sunroof
• Non-CPO
Asking price from a dealer was $94,988. Location is Southern California.
The Kelly Blue Book private-party price was $87,059, and the KBB dealer price was $91,804.
I went to look at the car and it was literally like brand new. I drove it, and really liked it, especially the sport exhaust. I offered them $89,988, which is $5K less than their asking price. They said no thanks and let me walk out. Then I went about looking at other cars. In a few days they emailed me asking if I was still interested. This began a series of negotiations via email and text that lasted about two weeks. As we were getting closer to a deal, I asked to take the car to an independent shop for a PPI. They said they don't allow their cars to leave their dealership. A friend of the family is an ASC master mechanic specializing in German cars. He trained in Germany and owns two 911's. So I asked if he could come in and inspect the car. They said yes. We finally agreed on a price of $91,800, pending the car passing the inspection.
We all met at the dealer where they had the car on the lift. The mechanic metered the paint and inspected the car. He pointed out a lot of things to show me how well the car had been cared for and that it showed no signs of abuse or being driven hard. So I bought it for $91,800, the KBB dealer price, and drove it home. That was about a month ago, and I could not be happier with the car.
Thanks for your input on this initial post. I hope this story is useful to anyone out there who might be in the process of buying their first 911.

Great story! Wish I had an ASC mechanic friend who specializes in German cars. Lucky guy!
