My first Porsche, a 2016 C2, was totaled 3 months ago (police cruiser ran a red light and T-boned an SUV which then hit me). I want to replace it with something better and am looking at a low mileage GTS of the same year. It will need winter wheels and tires, but it has centerlocks, which I am not familiar with. It also has the Sportdesign nose, with more overhang and less ground clearance than I am used to, and it does not have a backup camera. I came to appreciate the backup camera on my C2.
Are there any particular maintenance or reliability issues with the 991.1 GTS? My research so far hasn't found anything.
What are the stock centerlock wheels' offsets? I can't seem to find the official numbers.
For the centerlocks, what tools do I need other than the socket, a breaker bar and torque wrench?
Any tricks or advice for protecting the nose from scrapes?
Has anyone had luck with aftermarket rearview cameras, or are they not worth the trouble?
Amazing car, the 991.1 GTS. If you have the chance to scoop one up, I would highly suggest it. It is the last of the NA Carreras with a very respectable 430 hp. Just an awesome car. I have never removed a tire from either of my cars (GTS and GT3T) with centerlocks, so I cannot give you any advice there. Unfortunate that the car does not have a rear view camera but for me, hardly a deal breaker.
Agree with Porsche911GTS'16. Amazing all around PCar. No reliability issues on mine after 28k miles with about 10 track days. I would recommend the Rennline grills to protect the radiators from road debris. The exposed radiators are delicate and can be costly to repair/replace if damaged.
I have 2 sets of wheels plus stock wheels and change them up often for road and track use.
You have a few options for wheel removal. The majority here on RL use the 3/4" precision instrument torque wrench and breaker bar. This is a no joke task. You will need a second person applying break pressure and keeping the wheel straight while you use all your might to loosen those CL bolts.
With that system you only need the 1/2" torque wrench as it multiplies the force. You can also use this for changing the oil filter, oil and spark plugs so it's an all around great tool to have if you are doing your own up keep.
I was deciding between ordering a 2019 C2S vs a GTS & the center lock wheels, which I had not previously known about, made the choice easy. I got the C2S.

Do some searches on CL wheels. Many people hate them. If you never remove your own wheels & are always near a Porsche dealer or a big tire shop, probably a non issue for you.
But what if...you are on a road trip, in a small town & there is only Joe-Bob's gas station?
Food for thought.
Excellent car, and yes, I am biased. Have you driven a .2? As it is even better ... my GTS has 5 lug wheels,a den while I admit it they are not quite as sexy as the CLs, they sure are convenient. If you chose to move forward with this car, you will be thrilled. The cars are bulletproof and sound amazing. You will find your way around the CLs like everyone else has. Let us know what you decide.
Thanks so much for the encouragement and advice. The centerlocks should not be a problem for me. They look great and I have the skills to deal with them -- I just need the tools.
I have not had the pleasure of driving a 991.1 S or any 991.2 yet, but I had a spirited 20 mile test drive in the GTS over hilly, twisty roads. The differences in sound, handling and acceleration vs. my late, lovely 991.1 C2 base and this unit seem pretty pronounced.

Ducktail ftw! Mine has it too, absolutely love it. Great car, DO IT

cheers
I ordered my GTS and did not get the CLs because of the way they looked...I preferred the look of the Carrera S wheels since they were not so busy looking to me. Otherwise, how often does one really have to worry about changing a tire?! Get what looks best to you, and what you like to drive more, the .1 or .2 since they are different but both good.
I had a 991.1 CS and then 991.1 GTS. You can't go wrong with the GTS. Reliability was not an issue for me. If you like NA engine and have a need for the back seats there is no substitute
I haven't seen anyone who was sad for getting a GTS, a .1 or .2. Am delighted with mine! What are the additional options on the one you're looking at. That will also help.
