As I was poking around the PCM, I came across the software update button/option.
I pressed it on the touchscreen, fully expecting it to ask for subscription service number or tell me I need to pay for it but, it walked me through a few choices and I had to repeat a few steps but it started to update the map.
It was very slow and finally got to about 80% and then a message said it will continue once I shut the car off. Next day, when I started the car, I got a message the software update was successful!
So, apparently, we can update the PCM map software for free in the MY2019 911.
IDK if the map updates in the 911 are free only for the first year or during the four year warranty period?
However, I did not know about this and it stands to reason that is long as they are free, one should update before this free option goes away!
Don't use the Porsche nav very often as the graphics aren't very good (compared to Google and Waze). You'd think that the Porsche ones would be better.
The map update is part of the Connect Plus Navigation & Infotainment Services, so it would be free for the first year if you activate those services. It's a subscription service after the first year.
Would you mind looking at the version of map software you have now and let us know what that is? I periodically check my 991.2 for updates, but haven't received any for a very long time. All of my Porsche required subscriptions are up to date. Thanks.

TwinTurbo:
Can you describe how to get to the option button?
Thanks

Home/Set/Software Update/
Choose either “Load Update” or “Version Information”
Since I already updated, when I select Load Update I get:
Digital Road Map
New: North America 2019

The procedure is a little clunky but you can get through it with some help from the internet.
It apparently downloads while the car is parked and ignition off, I imagine the same way the services connect with the car via smartphone.
One thing that bugs me is that Porsche connection services don't offer remote unlock for the car via its app. My nearly 7 yoa Merc has that and it's a nice feature that can save from a locksmith.

You can get remote unlock with the Porsche Car Connect service, but only if your car has the Porsche Entry and Drive option.
