Honestly... if someone has a 996 then I don't know that a 100K upgrade to a 991.2 is going to net 100K additional ROI on emotional return. Someone else said it well that the best 911 is the one you get to drive whenever you want
I agree

Gosh... What a horrible, useless, waste of time thread... With over 5,000 views...

(Please note the use of Sarcasm Font...)

People watch car accidents when driving by too. Doesn't make them great events. Read the thread/posts and explain the greatness.

You should probably stop digging your own hole now, 'mano...

The only thing that might make this thread more entertaining is more of your self-entitled flummery, PCA1492 finding a way to talk about his X51 Power Kit (oh wait, he already has, of course!), or Papa Smurf, the self-appointed Sharif of RL bitching about someone's wing being up or enthralling us with the next inane bit of his car he's going to paint blue...

If you don't like the thread, you don't like the thread. You telling us about it is like the jackwagons who reply to all telling someone to remove them from the distro...

We definitely have a failure to communicate. No loss though for either of us.

I am the one who jests about spoilers being up (not wings) and there are actually a lot of people that like how I customize my car; I have gotten ideas from many here as well, so please give me the credit and not Papa Smurf! It appears that all you do is comment on member's posts - ever think about contributing useful information like many of us here do? Oh wait, you are not a member! And take an extra few seconds before you post to spell check.

It boggles my mind how you make an effort to not be nice to people... Why?

joking aside I had the same car as the op. Loved it until it started having problems. Traded for
new and it has so far been the most reliable vehicle I've ever had, I do miss the scream of the 3.4
Now if I had Leno's money, space and mechanics I would never have gotten rid of anything I've owned.
well maybe not the Morris garages products.
I think I would be happy with any reliable 911 from any year. All beautiful cars.
I don’t want to be the guy that continues to bring up how other car, so I’ll try and make this my last time.

I’ve got a 458 and a 991.2. The 458 is absolutely intoxicating. Talk about the scream of an engine. It’s bonkers.

But I can assure you, if one car goes it won’t be my 911. I admit I’m somewhat disappointed by the lack of big sound. But I’m going to make some adjustments, and hopefully that will help.

Either way, the 991.2 is truly a special car. I love it.

991.1 gen has downsides:

- Not that quick, mostly due to some stumbling/hesitation in acceleration
- Drives like a big car compared to cayman / boxster (or RWS .2)
- Infotainment kinda old and crappy (including bose harsh tweater sound... much improved in .2)
- Kinda dated look (mostly due to bulky turn signals and lobster shell rear)
- Older/slower/less responsive AWD system
- Steering feel kinda artificial/ numb
- Not really the best MT box and PDK not 100% polished
- Yea sounds great revving out, but drones lugging around on highways
- Plagued with change over valve and a few other known issues (squeak fuel tank, rattles)
- Windshield or rear glass glue melting

991.2 improved in all ways. Things wrong in 991 are fixed. For me this includes sound because I don't want drone a low RPMs and it has just enough to no get annoying. Mine is at 33k miles and honestly not too much to complain about aside from a rattled in a rear door panel caused by dealer (who also did some other damage).

992 doesn't really appeal much to me. Not really sold on the look and interior design. Basically adds unneeded funky design and bloat to .2 gen car. Why? I don't see how its an improvement...maybe when they make it a hybrid or electric (my guess) it will make more sense.

997 gen is too old and outdated to be a daily driver (engine unreliable due to IMS and bore scoring etc). 993 is a nice classic, but too expensive for what it is and just too old to be driven much without extensive repair... many are in poor condition and rusting away requiring full rebuild.

991 def seems best one to drive today IMO. .1 gen is nice, but .2 is better...its basically the same car with improvement/fixes. Single praise .1 gets is better exhaust sound, which is perhaps true, but also subjective and moot (I personally think .2 sounds better at lower RPMs and has the same scream though a bit less raspy at higher RPMs).

Other than that, I'd recommend 981 boxster as a fun short distance car...too bad they neutered it...not a fan of 781. Many owners went straight to 991.2. Next boxster will probably be electric.

The great Stout posted in this thread thereby elevating it to top quality status. You didn't waste any seconds, that classification of best 911s without having to dig it up from other threads is worth several minutes reading low content.

The best 911 doesn’t appear to be the 992 after reading a somewhat lukewarm review in the print version of C&D today. There were complaints about turbo lag, interior quality, the infotainment screen and its aloof nature. Surprising because normally C&D gushes over every 911. Maybe the 911 has indeed peaked with every previous generation having its staunch defenders and really no objective measure as to what it means to be ‘best”. Just as well.

i am very pleased with what I have, a 991.2 4s with a manual transmission and don’t have any desire for another version. Best car I have owned and certainly much more user-friendly (than my previous 981 Boxster) all year long in New England.
