Took the wife and daughter to Road America and they had a blast. Started with the drivers event Thursday evening, fine party Porsche sponsored. Then on Friday and Saturday rented a golf cart to cruise around, do that if you can. Parked in the Porsche Park up before turn 1, big sign can’t miss it. Lot of nice Porsche’s park there. And always a few guys hanging to keep watch, though Road America felt very safe.
We visited that Porscheplatz too Lex. Was disappointed they shut down early on Saturday. But was great to see the drivers from GT3 Cup. We missed the GTLM guys. Little one was having too much fun at the kids corral by turn 1.
We were really impressed with the access. Being able to walk around all the teams in the paddock was a big hit with the wife and daughter. It’s a big strength of IMSA events.
As as we were driving out wife turns and asks, so when are we getting a GT3...
If you want to see a GREAT event, at the very least, come to Road America the Sunday (8/1/19) of Labor Day weekend. That's the day of Club Racing. You'll see at least 6 sprint races that day. There are 3 main groups (Red, Green, and Blue), and each group runs twice. You will everything racing from old vintage 911s to new GT3 Cup cars, and everything in between.
If you are there Saturday afternoon, you can drive the old Road America course with police escort into downtown Elkhart Lake. There is also a Concours in downtown Elkhart Lake that day. Saturday are the sprint race qualifing races for Sunday's finals.
On Sunday, we usually do a charity (about $20/car) track touring event on Road America during the lunch-break. You can drive your Porsche or non-Porsche during these parade laps (about 20-30 minutes depending). Monday's races are the 90 minute enduros.
For entry into RA, all you need to be is a PCA Member. So bring your membership card. You'll sign the waiver, and sign the extra waiver for anyone in your group under 18. You can also come in as an invited guest of an attending PCA member or registered participant.
Porsche owners from all over America come to this event to Club Race since it's a "bucket-list" venue.
It's good to be the son of the plastic baron and WeatherTech founder, David MacNeil (a very-very generous man to our Chicago Region PCA, btw). This is Cooper of the GTD Ferrari 488 #63 car:

Thanks, we will plan on going up Labor Day weekend. Probably too short notice to get a place stay, I’ll check our schedules and ping you off thread

Make reservations in Grafton or Sheboygan. You should be able to find rooms still. 30 minutes away. Towneplace Suites still has $94 rooms. Clean and very new. About 35 miles from track. Lots of great restaurants nearby in Cedarburg and Mequon. Great AM coffee at Colectivo.
Great pix! I haven't been to RA since 1993 when Paul Tracey beat my hero, Nigel Mansell. I will not make the Labor Day event this year, but want to get a jump on 2020. Do you know when registration typically starts for this event.
Also, thanks for your posts. The information and your humor is priceless.

Thank you, that's very kind of you. Keep an open eye on the Chicago Region PCA web-site in early spring 2020 for registartion info on this event. The web-site linkis here:
