Default So this happened...

Left work at 10pm yesterday to go home. Merged onto 5 north on-ramp. Moderate traffic in right and middle lane. Light traffic in left lane. Two vehicles separated by 8ish car lengths in left lane moving quickly (85ish). I merge all the way to the left lane in between them. The one in front of me is doing 89. The one behind me is ON my *** very aggressively. Dark SUV. Car in front of me is a gray SUV or minivan. Now I am annoyed. There is no place to move right and car is on my *** by half a car length at 90mph. I am on the car in front of me so he will pull over and let me by. Now at 100mph. Car in front of me finally moves over and i drop the hammer. As I rapidly pull away from the car on my *** the red and blue lights turn on. Worst. Feeling. Ever. Escort 360 silent. ALP silent. Waze clear. FML. Does luck get any worse????

I had a VERY similar thing happen with a car riding my ***, I sped up to escape it...and it was a cop. He was on my butt so close I didn't see the blue/white lights.

I got super lucky and got a warning.

How'd yours turn out?

If you have a good clean driving record, go to court. Ask the Judge for Deferred Prosecution. It will be up to the DA to extend this offer to you. Expect to do 1 hour of community service per MPH over the posted speed limit. No fine. Expunged record. 60-90 days to complete. Don't need an attorney. Check your State Laws regarding Deferred Prosecution. GL.

Happened to me a few years ago. Had to get a lawyer. Cost me about $850 but points were reduced from 8 to 4.

And I wasn't even going as fast as you.

Good luck.

So he pulled me over. I apologized. I Still had my scrubs and hospital ID on as I had literally just left the OR. Told him I was in a rush to get home and that he was travelling quite fast. He said he was in pursuit of the car in front of me I that I cut him off with no turn signal. I asked how I was supposed to know he was a LEO in pursuit with no lights etc on? That was the end of the conversation. I apologized and he said he would cut me a break. He said he was at 101mph and that when I rapidly pulled away he hit the lights. So end of story he cited me for speeding violation and fail to signal. Total fine $560. No court appearance needed. Just send payment and move on. First ticket I have had in 7 years. Oregon does not have a point system. I am thinking I just pay it and learn. My feeling is If I appear in court and the judge learns my actual speed was 130ish that might be a problem. Keep in mind it would be a guess since he was measuring my speed by pacing.

I think with a lawyer you could argue in court that you were forced to speed by him tailgating you at high speed in an unmarked car.

Only times I've ever gotten in trouble with speeding has been stuff like this. Not quite the same situation, but just got mad / aggravated and punched the gas to get away from everyone. If someone is going to tailgate me that aggressivelly, I'm just going to pull over and let them pass.

And always signal.

What will your insurance company say/do about a 100 mph moving violation?

Yes I was wondering this too. I’d contest this one.

Take it to court. High likelihood that the cop wont show and it will be dismissed. otherwise he will have to admit to riding your *** at 100MPH "in pursuit" with no lights on. even if the charges are upheld they wont be any worse.

Its in your favor.
