I’ve been watching the base ‘17-18 market like a hawk for the past 4 or 5 months. There were a lot of cars in the $75k range in the spring, less so now. Must be a summer bump as I’m seeing a lot more in the mid 80s. I’m thinking I’ll wait it out until fall and watch the prices soften.

If one wants a manual car, it is very hard to find a used one with the right options. Why I went with a new car. Also, in the NE (Boston area) asking prices for CPO cars are pretty high.

Amazing deal. Well done! Seems you cut past triple net, unless they have some other money from PCNA.

Isn't mileage as much a factor as options? When throwing out numbers like low 70s for a '17 surely that's not well optioned with under 10k miles

I've been looking for a '14-early '16 991.1 base Carrera manual coupe with dark interior in the $60's. I'm hoping these last of the NA's will fall a little more with the 2020 arrivals . . . come this winter.

FWIW,

The logic behind a thread like this escapes me. All of these cars are going to depreciate, so wait if you like. Convince yourself you are going to get "better deal" by waiting. There will be someone grateful you hesitated. I've not seen any magical step function lower with the release of a new series.

Basic rule is when you find a build you like; you jump on it.

This is very true. So many times during my first search for a 991.1 4S I would find a fantastic build and it would be gone within hours and even minutes sometimes. Every time I thought I could wait for the price to drop or negotiate the seller would tell me it got sold or someone is coming to look.. Every single time they told me somebody was coming to look, that person would buy it.

When searching for a brand new .2 GTS, as soon as I found the build/color I wanted I jumped on it... AND I got 10% off MSRP!

I agree if your ok with a 991.2 any color and or options you can save quite a bit. I found some nice deals but no manual transmission cars with the color options I was looking for. So I built a 2019 that is on the ship headed to me right now. The dealer gave me a 5% discount on the build.

There's always the scrap yard. Could also part it out and do much better. Should be able to get $500 or so for scrap metal. So current owners should look up it won't be that bad.

I’m in (or was) in this conundrum - buy now or wait for downward price pressure from the 992.

While I was pondering this, a ‘17 at 84k popped up. I bought it.

It was a one-owner, CPO, 7MT, in GT Silver, average to high mileage, clean car fax, dealer serviced, with Sport Chrono and acceptable other options (in particular it did not have black wheels, something I did not want. I likely ‘overpaid’ but it is hard to find ‘exactly’ what you want in a used 911. And I could not order a new 991.2 at this point.

Considering that’s roughly the depreciation rate anyway, you’re absolutely right - and there are no pockets in coffins to put that $5k you “saved”.

I likely “overpaid” too. But I wanted a CPO turbo, needed front axel lift and desired ACC. Bought it sight unseen thousands of miles away from Teddy at Salt Lake City Porsche. Took my RS5 in trade. He was awesome - shipping, paperwork - no muss, no fuss.

And I’m having FUN this summer.
