Default 991.2 exhaust vid T-akra/kline, GTS-stock

Three cars in this rev battle.

1. 991.2 Carrera T with steel Kline headers, 200 cell cats, muffler

2. 991.2 Carrera GTS - stock

3. 991.2 Carrera T with the Akrapovic Titanium slip on muffler

All cars sound great! The stock GTS exhaust is menacing, and really, really nice. Kline setup is higher pitched and akrapovic has a deeper tone with more burbles.

Audio quality is best we could do with a gopro and inexpensive mic, as well as iphone.

Notice with gopro the GTS is loudest in the middle because sound is captured in stereo.

I guess, save your money and stick with the factory GTS exhaust.

Thank you! Glad to help out the community
The more time I spend around GTSs the more I realize how awesome they are from the factory.

Agree. They sound very different in real life but would argue the gts is the ONLY turbo 911 that doesnt need an exhaust mod of some sort. Stock base carreras sound tame in comparison, but the gts can hang with the best aftermarket systems in the business.
Whats missing from the video audio is how NA the kline sounds at the top and how loud the bangs are in sport mode. Its like gunshots.
The akra also has a unique resonance from the titanium that is lost in this sound clip. Definitely has the most burbles

ya sounds like the kline are a waste of money lols. definitely a lot more burble from the akra

regarding the louder bangs, i really wonder how much of that is from the sport cats thats part of the full kline setup. A lot of people with header and cat swaps reported similar sounds

For most people the “value” of exhaust is questionable. However, I wouldnt encourage making that final decision based on this video, as it was meant to be a qualitative sound comparison, not quantitative for volume difference. The stereo mocrophone is deceiving because the gts is in the middle, notice how sound primarily comes from either the left or right speaker when the modified cars rev. Its difficult to capture how they sound in real life and the kline is noticeably louder especially under load where the car sounds like its setting itself on fire near redline. Sounds air cooled NA in the cabin. The headers and cats definitelt make a huge difference in volume. Also, I disconnected the valves which reduces burbles. I like it better that way but some may not.
With a better mic maybe the final impression would be different. Again the biggest surprise was the stock gts exhaust, which I wouldnt really mess with. Ive heard the base with muffler deletes/x- pipe that dont sound as loud or good as the gts does stock. Base cars dont sound great from the factory (especially without PSE) IMO and I will try to do a side by side with the kline and a stock T with better microphone geometry to capture this.

ps i think the bigger turbos let alot more engine noise through. Noticed this on the s with powerkit on dyno day, but steve had cat delete. God dang thats loud

Sound is subjective so ideally one needs to hear the options in person, inside the car and outside, under load and idle, etc. But there are a lot of clips online to make a pretty good guess and I still feel that a simple pair of high flow cats with the PSE sound best, to me of course!

Thanks brozart. I think a redo with a better mic is in order. Gts is already booked, get your butt in there too, base with fabspeed is a good datapoint. We will do it correctly this time and im bringing the decibel counter too. Current video was fun end of drive shennanigans, I just whipped out a gopro for an impromptu rev battle. If anyone in chicago has a good video setup please let me know. We also need an s with pse, and steve with the cat delete (he’s gonna d**k slap everyone LMAO).

we use this next time

Great comparison.

It’d be interesting to hear the systems under load, like WOT with an up-change 2nd-3rd. Even though I have a GTS and think it sounds brilliant, I heard a Kline-modded 911 driving past in anger and it was *really* mean, almost a ripping/tearing noise like a race exhaust.

Did you have someone drive your GTS with you being able to hear it from outside the car?
