I shop insurance every 3 years like clockwork. Modern business pays no consideration to long term customers. They are simply hoping people fall asleep and don't pay attention the ever increasing rates.

Lol, I am in the insurance industry and I am paying $4K per year for the 911, M4, and a Prius. It just took a 28% increase in December at my last renewal. No accidents, 52 years old 830 Fico scores. I was like F-this, but I got 3 other quotes that were more than Liberty Mutual. I called my agent and ask WTF, was told, it’s California. Heck I just did an online State Farm quote after reading this thread, $6000 per year with the same coverage. I need to get out of CA.

I believe that the local jurisdiction is more important than the State. For example there are two of my coworkers who drive Audi A4s. One lives in the city and the other lives in the county. They live about a half a mile apart, but the city driver's rates are over 30% higher and they both are insured by the same company.

Also in SoCal -- would love to know your carrier vodkag. I was with Wawanesa for a number of years and my premium became nuts when I traded my C63S for a 991.2 C4S and an Audi SQ5. I recently switched to USAA but my premium is still about $1800 for 6 months of coverage. Early 30s, high FICO, no accidents/claims.

I read an article not too long ago about how being too loyal a customer can actually lead to rate increases due solely to that loyalty. People who just blindly pay their bill year after year can get rated as a "safe" customer that can be, for lack of a better description, screwed over with higher rates. The article made it clear this wasn't just some natural string of rate increases, but rather intentional. That is why I keep an open dialogue with my agent, if for no other reason than to make them realize I am paying attention.

I just moved my old cars from another classic carrier with an unresponsive agent to Haggerty and a much better agent. I was pleasantly surprised to learn our gentle use of our '15 Targa 4S would enable it to be on our classic car coverage... much lower premium and I now have stated-value instead of 'ACV"... actual cash value... which could have been tragic!

I just went to Hagerty’s site and coverage for my Targa was more than 2x what I am paying AAA, and coverage was not as good. However, they wouldn’t insure my other (2) commuter cars, and of course my home and umbrella policies were not included. Lots of variables in this business. I’m thinking a good multi-line agent is in order.

Just spoke with my AmFam agent and she tells me we qualify for a new “premium” policy with significant discounts. When I pushed for the conditions of the changes/discounts, I was told we’d have to accept the following:
  1. any accident within the household raises the rates for the entire household, not just the offending driver
  2. accident claims (and resulting premium increases) will not be reconsidered for 5 years (up from 3)
  3. any accidents by anyone I’ve loaned my vehicle to will create increased premiums for our household (extension of #1)
I’m currently looking to move everything over to Pure Insurance for better coverage and lower premiums overall. This will include auto, home, liability. My umbrella policy is with AON.

One factor contributing to higher rates in general is CA's regulation of insurance company scams. For example, CA prohibits discrimination based on credit score. As a result, insurance companies have to find other ways to bump their profits. Can't screw the policyholders with low credit scores? Screw everyone - then you are innocent of discrimination....

Insurance companies are the scourge of the earth.

My wife did the Progressive Snapshot trial in her car and wound up saving about $100 a year by earning a grade of B. It bases whether you get a discount based on stopping too fast, driving at night, and the amount of miles driven. And before anyone asks, no way in hell would I do it in the Porsche!

Well, I got another quote today $5600 per year for same cars. It must be my NorthEast Orange County location lol! Again, my wife and I have no tickets, no accidents, both licensed at 16, 4 year college grads, high FICO score, and have Auto, Home, and Umbrella policy from same company, Libert Mutual, and I worked there for 18 years. A nearly 30% increase in December because, it California?? Now I do plan on leaving CA, but might be sooner than I thought.
