Error Fault Code P2103...cleared itself?

Hi all, need some opinions here.

I have 50k miles on my Cab. I had less than a quarter tank of gas. I started car and about a quarter mile in, I get the dreaded “Fault Engine Control. Possible to drive on. So I limp home and garage car.

When I got home from work, ran an OBD II scan and up came the P2103 code which stands for “Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit High”. So I did some Googling and called my local 911 mechanic. He recommended that I clear code and see what happens. Okay. I return to car to clear code, fire her up and she’s fine...she is out of limp mode. I drove her a couple of miles and filled her up. She seems fine.

Going on a little trip out of town next week. Any thoughts on this? Should I be worried? Or was this just a stuck throttle actuator that unstuck itself?

Thanks for any feedback.

Is all other maintenance up to date? Have you completed the 40K service??

I don't think the car self repaired itself.

Hmm. maybe the car wanted your attention as it approached 50k.

Hi Lex,

40k service completed. What service is completed on throttle body?

Gremlins appear and disappear all the time so don't worry about something that is no longer a problem. Otherwise, stop driving it and sell it before it hits 50k miles...sounds better to advertise it with "49xxx miles".

I tend to agree with you Bob...I don’t flip cars and keep mine an average of about 14 years. I truly believe this was just a minor glitch...I’m taking her back out tomorrow...if she acts up again, I’ll know she needs some TLC...it’s all good, 50,000 miles, zero issues.

Drove car 60 miles today....no issues. I have a feeling running on low fuel may have contributed to error? Gremlin for sure. It actually happens!

So strange...well I took my car on a 600 mile trip to Vegas...no issues. Brought her home, gave her a quick wash next day. Drove her quarter mile and up came code. I again checked OBD codes getting that ECU 1 and 2 again. I restarted car and car was fine again.

Any guesses?

Im probably off to my Indy on Monday.

since you asked for guesses, perhaps a dirty or sticking throttle body? Probably a good idea to have it checked before you get stuck.

Thanks...would this just require me taking off air box and just cleaning throttle body?

I’d like to try easy DIY fixes before going off to Indy.

So I will be taking the rear bumper off to clean throttle body...anything else I should do while that bumper is off?
