Default 991.2 S to 991.2 T?

Hi guys,

Since last year I’ve been thinking about picking up a T, but last summer settled on a CPO C2S with PDK because of lack of inventory. I have a deposit on a 992 but my heart is rather meh about it. I had previously moved from a GT4 and I do miss that car but the 2+2 seats of the 911 are too useful for me to go back. I track my car 5-6 times a year and kill tires and brakes way too quickly now compared to the lighter and better balanced GT4. So I’m thinking I should move to a dedicated race car at some point.

Thing is, I’m jonesing for a manual Carrera T. Oh how I miss the manual gearbox.

Anyone moved from a 991.2 S to a 991.2 T? Do you missed the power? (No I won’t tune it until out of warranty so...) how does it feel compared to the S?

If you make the move (which I would do in a heartbeat) and you miss the power, a simple tune will get you to S-ville and beyond with ease. These cars are very easy to tune up.

Not an easy question as I suspect the two cars you're comparing will be pretty close on the track. I predict this thread will have a few peeps making this about which tranny is best. If I wanted a coupe, I definitely would go to the manual T. For what its worth, I moved from a highly optioned PDK C2S to a low optioned manual Targa 4 . Does that "T" count ?

I think you've already answered your own question! Go for it if it's what you want/caught your fancy, that's what these cars are for

I personally love the 3.0 base engine, a lot

As an owner of a .2 base 7MT, I can say you won't lack for power on the street. With the T's shorter gearing, it will feel more lively than a base. The speedometer will still read ridiculous numbers in short order and you'll need to slow down, fast. I totally get the yearn for the manual, it is one of my favorite non-options in the 911. Your are really up against transaction costs of trading out of the S and into the T. Then you'll need to weigh the costs with the incremental enjoyment of the T. Tough one. Do some serious test driving and report back.

For fun road driving, it would be tough to beat a 7MT Carrera T. And I agree with Sam, it sounds like you already know the answer.

Same here, I came from a .1 stick 3.4 and it was really fun driving it. Now with a .2 s pdk and it's super fast but not too fun to drive since there's a lot of traffic often. Thinking of changing to a stick .2 s or .2 T.

I would be getting the Carrera T. Sounds perfect for your use.

Tough one. Going "down" is never easy, although I imagine the T would be more fun and communicative on the road.

Duude. Love my 3.4 PDK but you just reminded me of how much I'd extra love if it was a manual.

Funny you should ask, OP, a buddy of mine keeps bugging me to trade him my Carrera T for his C2S. His car is a higher MSRP with more luxury items, but it’s not going to happen.

You should drive a Carrera T and see for yourself. And be careful with RL comments. Some people here who like to comment on the Carrera T have never even driven the car, let alone owned one.

Drive one, you’ll know.

I recently added a 987.2S manual. Here is why its more fun around town... Manual but also, with the same level of effort in the car, the 987 is doing 60 where the 911 would have been doing 100. Granted this is NA so it is fun to wring out the engine but the manual T would still be more of a hoot and IMO is the sweet spot.

I think the "cheap" one is often the one to get. Mclaren 570 is the best in the line, The last of the V8 Manual Vantage GT,s were the best in the line. Just my opinion.

I remember your pics from the GT4 board.

I went a different direction and sold my GT4 for a Turbo. In the end, the PDK was awesome, but boring.

Back in a manual Porsche (albeit an older one) and the world is right again.

I've never driven it, unfortunately, but I've heard Porsche really nailed the 7MT in the Carrera T. If it's anything close to the GT4 box, that sounds like a winner to me.

I wouldn't worry about power. My 993 is as fast as a lawn mower compared to a .2 Turbo. I could not care less. It's fast enough.

I'd personally make the move, sight unseen. PDK fundamentally changes the car.

Thanks, also thinking of an older car, the 993 being my favourite. I have 2 kids though so not sure how well modern kid seats would fit in the back of the 993. Also I’ll still want to track the car so doing it in a pristine 993 would break my heart. I’m happy to hear that the power isn’t missed much.
