This is tempting. I have a 15 GTS and would love just a bit more performance. I would imagine the Cats would make a noticeable difference. BUT, I am in CA and I don't want the expense of changing back to stock if I fail emissions.

Can any CA modified car owners share their experience with emissions? My impression is that the cars with Soul headers sound relatively normal in non-sport exhaust mode. Are the emissions guys likely to get under the car??

Same here. '16 GTS, Calif owner. They always use those little mirrors to look under my cars and would notice this system. What would happen with the sensors in the exhaust pipes? Would it pass Calif without problems? Also what is the cost, headers on back if I might ask? Thanks.

From my reading my 15 GTS will be due for an inspection in 2023 or 2024. Not as bad as I thought.

CA.gov
3. What vehicles require a Smog Check?

Gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and alternative-fuel vehicles that are model year 1976 and newer require a Smog Check, with the following exceptions:
  1. Eight model-years and newer do not need a biennial (every other year) inspection.
  2. Four model-years and newer do not need a change-of-ownership inspection.

California, for newer cars, they don't do tailpipe sniffing anymore while running on roller. They just hook up to your OBD and turn on the car for a couple of mins. Did that on my previous 2010 Panamera with aftermarket exhaust and my wife's 2012 Cayman R with an aftermarket exhaust.

Vehicles registered in areas subject to the biennial smog certification program are required to submit evidence of a smog certification every other renewal period. Starting January 1, 2019, owners of vehicles eight or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first eight registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification. The registration renewal notice mailed to you by the department will indicate if a smog certification is required. If a smog certification is required and you have not had a smog inspection, you may still pay your registration fees to avoid any late fees. However, you will not receive your new registration or year sticker until the smog information has been received by DMV.

NOTE: Upon initial registration, nonresident,

  • Diesel powered vehicles 1998 model year and newer with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating (GVWR) of no more than 14,000 lbs, and specially constructed vehicles 1976 and newer require smog certification. The six or less model years old rule does not apply to these vehicles
Counties that require biennial smog inspections are listed above.

But if your a deisel powered vehicle weighing over 14K lbs, you don't need a smog check Kalifornia laws... smh

2010panny4S, so you are saying they didn't use mirrors to look under the car and both vehicles passed without an issue. Is that right?

Hey guys,

Emissions in CA can be a little tricky, but luckily your cars are quite new. I'll shoot you both a PM to discuss

Best regards,
