Some of is have used flat Black BBQ grill paint, which you can get at Walmart, and other fine retailers near you.

It literally took me longer to unpack the grills and read the instructions than to actually install them. Tape is not necessary, but...

I believe you. And I will take them out of the plastic and out to the car to judge the potential for scratching the paint before taping anything.
