991.1S w/ Ducktail or GT4?
Disclaimer: I hate having to post this in a very partial forum, but the reality is the 991 forum is WAY more heavily travelled than the general forums and I want feedback.
I found a 991.1S Ducktail (in MT!!!! ) that is comparable in price to a GT4 I am equally in love with. Very different cars, but will serve exact same purposes: play on the weekends, with occasional DEs.
If I went with the Ducktail, it would be my first 911. If I went with the GT4, it would be my first GT car, but fourth Cayman (to the extent a GT4 is even a Cayman).
Again, I know which forum I am in, but please send any and all productive input.
Cheers and TYIA,
GPd

GT4 in my opinion is a great package out of the box if you're okay with a slight boy-racer look to the car. 991.1S (which I own in MT) is a good car IMO from the factory, but with a few tweaks becomes a great / awesome car. I'm a bit of a tinkerer so 991 is a good fit and fun for me in this regard. Looks-wise, I'm a sucker for the 991 silhouette but think the GT4 looks fine in its own way.

Since you’re a prior Cayman owner and are used to the Cayman’s mid engine configuration, I would suspect the GT4 would be your best choice. Obviously you favor that model since you have had four examples.
Unless of course you are simply now looking to have a 911 because you have never had one before. In that case, I’d go for the 911.

I came from a 981 CS. to a manual 991 C2S. At first I had my doubts, but after some track days and light mods I love my 991. I added Damptronic Bilsteins with Elephant Racing off center camber plates to get more front negative camber and a DSC. I LOVE MY CAR.
On the shifting side I added a numeric racing shifter and a FF shift **** and tranny mount.

GT4 no doubt it is a different car, far superior in handling, better power/weight ratio....no comparable to 991.1

I've owned both at the same time. Driven back to back the GT4 is worlds different for feel and is just so much more direct. The gearing and motor is better in the 991S. They really did hamper the GT4 from the factory. However you can easily do mods that will greatly increase power. For me it's GT4 all the way unless you need the back seats.

For DE's I would go with the 991 for autoX I would go with Cayman or golf R.

I’ve taken both around the ‘ring in stock configurations. If that’s your focus I would take the GT4. It feels better balanced than the 911. I’m sure with enough seat time you can get the 911 close to or maybe even equal with the GT4. I would also say the same for the GT4...I.e, more seat time means quicker laps.
In the end it’s your choice. You see mine.

I'd need to see the options on the 991.1 to have an opinion. I'm spoiled and want lux options like sunroof, keyless entry, ventilated seats parking sensors etc that were not available on a GT4. PDCC is nice too - nothing sweeter than flat cornering with a comfort mode for rough roads and brick streets. .
