Would you buy this? - 2017 991.2 w/ 58k mi
I've been in the market for my first 911 and test drove a really nice Agate Gray 2017 991.2 Cabrio w/ 18k miles on the odometer. I was ready to commit but dealer also had a nice Graphite Blue 2017 991.2 Cabrio w/ virtually identical options and listed for about ~$14k less. The only catch is that it has over 58k miles on the odometer. I drove that one as well and besides a couple of minor paint chips and a little more wear on the roof, it had a pristine interior and drove/sounded great.
Other than the fact that the car is no longer CPO, what else would you be worried about? I plan to hold onto the car for a long time (~5-10yrs) so I'm less concerned about resale value. I'd love to save the money up front but I'm worried I'm missing something obvious. Would this be a deal breaker for you?

wow that is a lot of miles! Agreed with evilfij 14k is not enough discount, especially with no CPO compared to the other car still being under warranty. Typically I've found these cars depreciate around(very roughly) ~$6000 per 10k miles, so 24k-25k would be a nice discount. One thing to keep in mind is a higher mileage car will also cost more to maintain compared to a low mileage example...so savings upfront may be lost while through higher maintenance cost. 991.2 is pretty new so not a lot of reference points on how well these cars hold up with high mileage.

That makes sense. I think I was just caught up in the moment but in the sober light of the morning I agree 40k miles are worth more than $14k. Would be a heck of a lease rate in reverse though...
Natman - I agree w/ you here in general. I'm also curious if the 991.2 has any major maintenance milestones around the 60k or 75k mile mark.

If you really like the higher mileage car go back to the dealer and mention that you started this thread and tell them that most everyone agrees that the price difference is not enough and I am sure they will negotiate. Personally, if you can get the difference to $20k it would be worth it, especially if that is the car you like. Besides, I would rather have a Graphite Blue car over an Agate Gray one so I like it better as well.

The miles would not scare me. How many miles are you going to put on the car per year? If you will use it as a DD and put 12 miles per year, in 5 years you would be up to 118K miles, but if this is a special occasion car and you put about 3K miles a year, in 5 years would have 73K miles on it. Quite a difference even though driving the car to above 100K miles would not concern me except, what it will do to sale/trade-in value at that point.
Maybe you could negotiate a CPO into the second car with the dealer to give you more of a piece of mind.

I travel for a living and am away from home 4 days a week so even as DD this car would get less than 2k miles a year from me.
My biggest concern is the CPO warranty and impending service items. I typically keep my cars 5-8 years so am not specifically worried about depreciation over that timespan given my limited usage. Other cars should catch up.
The $14k difference is off of asking price so I'm planning to go back and negotiate on both that and warranty.

that new turbo motor has not proven its durability. I would not own one without CPO especially with that many miles. If it were a 991.1 with 9A1 motor, I would be less concerned as I have yet to hear of a motor failure in a 991.1 or 997.2 motor with some having 100k+ miles on them. Turbo motors by the nature of what they are have more things that can leak and fail. I would wait for a lower mileage car with warranty.

can you pull the service history and see what issues each car has been there for? You may find the high mileage car is perfectly fine while the lower mileage car was returned due to a lot of issues.
