Default Shop Labor Rates...

What kind of labor rates are you guys seeing from indy shops? Local "performance shop" quoted me $159 hourly.. Yikes!.. What happened to the $80-$110 days? Am I stuck in the past?

Local Porsche shop charges $100 an hour.
Quality work. They build cars for quite a lot of people around the Midwest.

$110, Pulse Racing Service in Northeast FL. And the shop has all of the Porsche stuff, not just a shop that says they will work on one.

Where do you live? Big part of the economics.

yeah this depends on where you live...when I was in the East Coast my Ferrari dealer charges $165/ hour labor (3 years ago). Now I am in NorCal and my Mercedes indy charges more than that!

It's not so much the actual book rate as it is the actual book time they charge for a repair.

$159 is high for an indie. Porsche Dealer shops Im familiar with run $160-$220. Indie shops $100-120. Best to get a quoted price for comparing, if you can.

Found another shop in Houston, current rate is 100/hr

Einar's Garage
3483, 1909 Nicholson St, Seabrook, TX 77586
(832) 755-6774

Talked to owner earlier today because I am starting to think Modern Aircooled charges a little too much. For example they quoted me 5 hours of labor for swapping shifter and coupler in the 3.2 carrera. Einar said that's a max 3 hour job, usually 2.5 hours. That's 250 vs. 650.

991 oil change is flat rate 200 total including oil. Modern wants 2 hours labor + parts. Probably would have come out to 260+100+tax = ~400.

Well this is the part that bugs me with every shop.. They'll book you for 10 hours of labor but they finish the job in 4-6.. Even in those 4-6 hours, how much of that time was spent on their phone? Taking a dump? Chit catting? ... etc.

It's principal. Been enough a couple time where I just did the work myself.

Located in AZ.

Sorry for reviving an older thread but I’m shopping around for somewhere to knock out my belts and water pump for my 944 and the while your in there things, oil cooler seals, front main seal, all the goodies lol. Also located in AZ. The dealer in chandler at $155 an hour quoted me $1700 in labor. (After taxes) the funny thing is if you shell out another $1300 you could very well get an engine race prepped by an Indy shop out here lol. Those guys charge about $120 an hour last I checked. I’ve never done the belts, but is it really worth the extra 500$ to 1000$ in labor to get em done at a shop?
