Lexvan is correct but the Porsche word is "aluminum".
From the 2007 sales brochure:

Like its 911 Carrera stablemate,
the 911 Carrera S has an interior
replete with driver-oriented styling
cues. Features unique to the
911 Carrera S include a threespoke
sports steering wheel,
aluminum-colored instrument
dials and Aluminum-Look
dashboard trim.

I have the white gauges and red SC clock. Love it.

I will one up you..."Aluminum Look" as printed on the window sticker. My 996.1 had standard black, so I was rally excited to order the "aluminum" look gauges on my 996.2 No S during that generation, but the 997's as said before did come with silver gauges on the S. Just as Jaskfri has posted. Anyone else think the grey tach only on 991's looks out of place?
