OPINION ON FIRST YEAR 991 C2S??
Whats going on guys. I have the opportunity to buy a black/black 2012 c2s with 33k miles and 1 owner. What do you think about buying first year 991?

Buy it after checking service records. Anything that would have happened due to being a first year build would have happened long ago. That fact no longer is relevant on an 8 year old car.

I have a 2012.5 Carrera S, purchased as a CPO in Jan 2018 with 13.5K miles and it has been solid as a rock. No rattles, no problems. LOVE the car.

57,000 miles on a 2013 C2S and it runs as new.

What is the build? Price? If you like it and you think it is worth the money to you it should be an easy decision. It would be nice if you could see the service history though.

I bought a 2012.5 w/57k on it last October with all records from new. Other than new tire receipts, a heater control valve, change over valves, MAP sensor and low horn tone are all that has needed attention. All these but MAP fixed under warranty in first 40k. I ran purchase from private party through a dealer to pick up a 48mo/60k tranferable warranty just to make it earlier to sell to people who worry about fancy car repair bills.

Never owned an early 991.1, but have read a number of instances of the top of the door panel deliminating. If the one you're looking at looks good there, it probably has been replaced. So probably nothing to worry about.

Check the interior trim at the top of the door panels, next to the glass. 991s have some issues with trim separation due to glue failure... *sigh*
Other than that I think you're going to be just fine.

My 2012.5 has been all good except door panels, COV valves and rattle in passenger seat (all taken care of under warranty or recall). Everything has been perfect for the last 4 years of ownership (which is pretty stellar). There do not seem to be any of the major design flaws which used to plague the older first year cars. The silly door panels are still a poor design and eventually there will probably be a recall as the design flaw is that they are not glued down so the airbag can deploy over them.

This thread is helpful. I too am beginning to shop for a 991.1 Carrera S in the 60-65k range. Just need to sell my Defender 90 SW first (anyone?).
Whats are thoughts on CPO vs non CPO? I am handy enough to do most of my own repairs but parts alone add up quick on these cars. I found a CPO car online I like they are asking $67k for. I see private party in that same price point for similar optioned cars.
I have looked at, at least 60 cars online and none of them had leather dashboard. I assume that isn't a popular option or is my price point too low for that?
My must haves are Sport Chrono, Sport Seats, and Bose audio. Really would like Carrera S wheels too as they are expensive second hand. PSE I can add later on. I will let the car/deal decide whether its PDK or 7MT, both are appealing to me.
The person mentioning base 991.2 got in my head... Can they be had for < $70k?
Do the 991.1 3.8's suffer from intake valve gumming/carbon build up due to direct injection?

Wouldn't concern me going for an early model year car. Go for it.
