Confirmed, you need sport chrono for launch control. I don't believe there is a kit (Porsche doesn't have one) to add it as there is a lot involved, not the least is programming once its all installed.
Related question for sports chrono -- a friend has a base Carrera on order with 7MT. He was telling me about his spec and said that although he would have preferred to skip sports chrono (he doesn't like the look of the "wart" and would have preferred to save the coin) he ordered it because he heard that you need SC with the 7MT if you're going to get a tune. Is this true? I haven't tuned any of my 911s and they both automatically came with SC (Carrera T and GT3), so I had never heard this. Is he right?
Edit -- sorry to OP if this should have been a separate thread, don't mean to hijack.
Sport Chrono was/is a software upgrade on the 997. I remember a few threads where people who didn't have it were able to get it via PIWIS or other dealer magic. I haven't heard of this on the 991, but maybe??
i have a base with no sport chrono and therefor no "launch control'. however, i can launch the car in a very similar manner by holding the break and raising the revs. almost exactly the same as LC in my C4S with sport chrono minus the perfect control on revs.
the reason i wish i had sport chrono is for the far more aggressive shifts when in sport+.

Just the opposite actually...many feel they do not need the SC with a manual while those with a PDK get the SC for launch control. etc. And the SC has nothing to do with getting a tune.
You can add it via PIWIZ2 or an Autel if you really want it.
SC is good for resale but don't worry about it too much as it's a total gimmick on the street. Most will never use launch control since it's only good for marketing propaganda to compare magazine 0-60 specs and nothing more.
It's a computer/tool that Indies use with 99% of the functionality of the dealer software. The real thing is expensive (>10K) but some use a Chinese version that have the vast majority of the capability.

So, what can be added? Launch control or effectively, sport chrono? I would assume that a console button would be needed?

Thank you, Bob, that's what I thought. I'll let him know, maybe he still has time to delete it.
I was under the impression that Launch Control was a factory option on all 991.2, but seems like I'm wrong.
If by factory option you mean standard feature, you might be thinking of PASM. PASM is standard on the 991.2, whereas it used to be an option or part of a package.
