Car Insurance for Extended Warranty?
Like many, I will be coming to the end of my warranty in a few months. There has been many threads and discussions about this and what company to use to extend the warranty, and the winner for the most part seems to be Fidelity. But having purchased my car new, my insurance company has included in my policy Mechanical Breakdown Insurance, which is supposed to cover repair of all mechanical parts of the car. I think it is good for 7 years from date of purchase, so basically, an extended warranty for 3 more years. I am assuming most major insurance companies provide something similar. Anyone have experience with this? Sure would save me some bucks.

I have no experience with this, but knowing insurance companies I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a process in terms of collecting.
If your PDK fails and they cover it, is your premium going up?
Porsche offers extended warranty programs on cars that are still under their factory warranty. Contact your dealer, you can negotiate the pricing too.

I purchased a Fidelity Platinum 68000 miles / 5 years for my 2014 50th anniversary with 8000 miles on the clock . Retail cost was $3402.00 after rennlist discount my cost out the door is $1871.00. its transferable and cancellable (prorated). The same plan offered by a Porsche dealership was $4268.00 and then they reduced it to $3798.00.
how much extra is your insurance company charging you for the mechanical breakdown coverage . Do they pay the porsche labor rate and pay for porsche parts ? Fidelity does

Cost is $135 per year. It covers repairs to all mechanical parts of the car. You can take it to any shop of your choice and you only have to pay the deductible. My understanding is, you take it to the shop, insurance company sends out an adjuster and agrees on what has to be done, they pay the shop directly less the deductible.
Sounds great in theory, especially for $135 a year, but remember they collected $540 for the first 4 years as free money because MBI will never be used as the car is under factory warranty. I don't know if the cost goes up after the 4th year, but I assume that it could.
Will premium go up if there is a big ticket item - who knows, but any insurance company can raise rates or drop you for any big ticket item or accident. You are at their mercy.

+1 That MBI falls way, way over the line into "if it's too good to be true...". I would do a seriously deep dive into all those details before assuming it would cover an $18-$20K PDK, major engine repairs, etc. There is something amiss. Do you mind sharing the insurance company that provides this coverage, as I've never heard of such a thing? If my insurance offered such a rider, and it was as you describe, I'd be all over it.

Reviews of MBI on Bimmer forums have been positive - have read that it is an easy process and that repairs from a few hundred to thousands were approved with no hassles. Have not read of any repairs not being approved. You just have to pay the deductible - and windshield repair/replacement is included as part of the plan.

10 year/100k mile with the $100 deductible at $4280 and the $0 deductible at $5259. I can do either at $20 over our cost.
MJ at had the same policy for 4300 with a 10 year deductible at 504-352-8796..

It's Geico. Been with them over 30 years. Did not even ask for it, it just showed up on my policy, and since it was so little money, I just kept it on.
