Default 991.1 oil change washer

Is it a terrible idea to reuse the washer? My first oil change on this car and forgot to get one. Dealers is closed. Napa doesn’t have one. I could just let it sit until tomorrow if needed.

I was too excited to start the new year fresh and send the oil off for analysis.

I've reused them before without issue.

Repeated use, the soft aluminum sealing washer work hardens. As a result, the aluminum sealing washers leak and users end up over torquing the drain bolt, sometimes till they strip. Seen this many times on motorcycles.

Reuse in a pinch, I've done it without a problem. Torque to normal spec.

Reusing a crush seal is a game of chance: x% chance of leak and y% chance of damaging threads on plug or oil pan.

18 mm X 24 mm aluminum crush washer. Works for 991.1 (and Turbo) and 981.

Buy a 1/8-pound of them, now, so you have them next year and never run out again:

Flip it over and use it once more, which I have done on cars & motorcycles over the years and never had a problem.

I decided to just wait. Didn’t need the car. I’ll stop by the dealer and pick up one tomorrow. Then use the site to order several more. Thanks guys!

Exactly this. I usually just buy a new one though for $1.
