I've been wanting to do this mod ever since I picked up my 911. Cant find the heart to pony up $1700+ so I've been scouring the internet...lmk if you find a deal.

I think there was a thread that veered into this topic a while back. Essentially, there have been a few people who have tried painting (usually PlastiDip) their engine grille black with success usually being dependent more on the user than anything else. There have been a few others who have had the individual slats of the OEM engine grille professionally wrapped either matte or gloss black. This seems to be the way to go for a truly professional look in an attempt to avoid dropping the coin on a GTS or R grille.

Have a white C4 with black roof (glass sunroof). Started looking at the black engine grills when they were $1200 (2015?) and bought one this past summer for about $500 more. The install is easy and the grill makes the car look really good. I don't even think anymore about how much I paid for the most expensive piece of plastic I ever bought in my 73 years!

I’ve done it - VERY straightforward. I have the “50th” grille as opposed to the GTS as I wanted some more “bling” back there (50th grille is actually more expensive). I may sell mine soon if you’re interested (pic below). Better yet, if you’re in Tampa you should come down for “Porsches in the park” next Sat (15th?) in Sarasota, and see it in person! It’s an event hosted by Suncoast - usually a fun time.

Sorry, I'm photo-challenged and can barely turn my iPhone on. Just got tired of how bland the rear end looked with the white engine grill. The black glass roof now flows past the tinted rear window to the black engine grill. It really improves contrast (at least on light colors) on the rear of the car. It's expensive for an appearance item but imo worth it. As for pictures, look at any 991.1 GTS. As I said, the grill "makes the car look really good".

I have had my 14 991 with 15k miles for about a year now. Not my first porsche but first 911. You guys inspired me. I HATED the real engine grille.
I live in Sarasota and bIt the bullet and had Suncoast install the GTS grille. Instant happiness. 😁
