Default Cooling system fault in Carrera T.

I was setting off on a 350 mile trip this morning and saw a cooling system fault warning appear on the display. Not seen it before.

After a few miles it disappeared.

During that time the oil temperature climbed to about 104 degrees centigrade. It then seemed to correct itself and the oil temp returned to the normal range of about 90-92 degrees centigrade.

Very strange. I’ll take the car to my local Porsche Centre this week for them to take a look...

I’ve been watching my oil temperature closely as I am breaking in the engine on my new T. I’m trying to not rev the engine above 3,000 rpm until the oil temperature rises above 180 degrees Fahrenheit (82 Centigrade).

I’ve noticed though that the oil temperature is routinely above 230 Fahrenheit (110 Centigrade) when I’m driving the car in normal mode. When I switch it to Sport mode, the oil temperature goes down to around 200 Fahrenheit (93 Centigrade).

What is the optimum oil temperature with 0W40 anyways?

I hope your T is ok and I will be interested to hear what the issue is especially with the water pump issues everyone seems to be having.

Thanks. I nearly always drive in Sport mode. I’ll update on here later this week hopefully.

Cheers,

Rang my Porsche Centre this morning and explained the above fault.

Service department said their next slot is 28th of this month!?

They suggested that I ring Porsche Assist and call them out... I may do this on Wednesday. I have the day off and won’t be driving the car before then.

Service guy also denied any knowledge about any water pump issues with 991.2s saying he’s never recalled needing to replace a water pump on any 911.

So anything he said prior to that last statement is not only suspect but downright underwhelming...additionally any future comments should equally be disregarded.

^^^ Yes, looked exactly like the above.

Oil temp climbed to 104 degrees centigrade and then seemed to correct itself to the normal level of around 90 degrees centigrade.

Sorry, what is “COV”?

COV is a change over valve. Was a common problem on the 991.1s. Thought they had improved the design on the 991.2s.

Change over valve.
It is basically a solenoid that controls the position of levers and doors... HVAC air mixing doors, PSE valve control, stuff like that.
