Just bought my first Porsche, am I crazy to road-trip it home with wife and kids?

Wow....This was a cool post. Thanks for sharing. When I started reading it was I think, F yeah man drive it back! Very happy you did. You only live once. Great pictures too! These are great cars. I love the white color!

Great story! Thanks for posting the whole experience. My 911 was my first one too, and after two and a half years I love the car as much or more than the first drive. Plan to buy it at lease end. It would seriously suck not to have a 911 after getting used to driving one.

Great posts there vincenz0. Good that you had the family to enjoy part of your ride home, & great that you had some open time to experience the car for yourself.
Shiny side up !

[QUOTE=bkrantz;15542739]You inspired me to dig through old files. Here is a photo my wife took 20 years ago of me, our two kids (age 7 and 4 at the time), and our 964 C4. We all drove from Anchorage to Skagway via Canada and back, about 1600 miles round trip. Great scenery and history, very open roads, and fun for all (at least as I remember).
This photo should be laminated ( rather large )
and hung in your garage. Classic..........or sell it to Levi's for advertising

Just read through this and now I REALLY can't wait to do my own version (in the opposite direction). I'll be sure to post a write up next month from Vegas to PDX. Hopefully I don't see any accidents but glad you did the right thing. I've been up through the lost coast many times and it really is the middle of no where.

Thanks for all of the kind feedback and comments about the trip report. Glad you all enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to being part of the Porsche community!

I did't read everyone's comments, but I read all of yours. The one thing I would have done differently is invite one of the kids to ride shotgun. It would have been a great opportunity to bond with one of your kids and given them the memories your original plan hoped for. My career took me all over the country and with each move I invited one of the kids to ride along. It was always my son, and we always had a great time. The daughter was never interested.
