Default P0456 Tank system very tiny leak

I searched around the forum and didn't find much on this code Car threw the Engine Fault code yesterday. Plugged in the icarsoft and it shows P0456 code, tank system very tiny leak. My gas cap (the overpriced aluminum looking Porsche one) seems fine and is only 18 months old. I can faintly smell gas inside the car. Has anyone had this problem and if so what was the culprit? I have looked around and it seems it can be any number of lines or canisters that involve the fuel system. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Take it in.

Did your car have the fuel line recall completed?

Not sure what span of time the 991.2's had this recall.

Anytime you can smell gas inside a vehicle, it needs resolution ASAP.

It's unhealthy and I'm sure you've seen videos of vehicle fires, I've seen several live ones and believe me, unless you have a very good extinguisher handy, vehicle fires build up VERY rapidly.

I wouldn't want to drive it at all. It's expensive car, consider a tow to the service provider, make them absolutely aware of the gas smell.

Its at the dealership. Will report back when I hear what the problem was. I bought my 2015 991.1 base as a CPO so I assume the fuel line recall was done.

Oops I thought it would have been a 991.2...... they had an early issue and so did the 991.1's in 2012 about some fuel line.

Update. Rodents got into my engine somehow (car is kept in a garage) and chewed through a vacuum hose. They have to lower the engine to access the line to replace. 15 hours of labor and $200 in parts. Fortunately, my comprehensive insurance covers most of the $3,200 cost. Be wary of rodents in your garage!

unfortunately, rodents can get in from anywhere, even the smallest crack

my biggest fear

I keep one of those electronic rodent repellers in my garage

don't know if it helps or not

also keep glue traps there

so far, glue traps caught one small rodent

also spray peppermint oil around the car - supposedly mice don't like the smell

but then I get the people who want to lick my car

We have a second home in North Carolina, left my car out for one night, the next day I found part of the under hood insulation been chewed up and used as bedding, most likely by some rodent.

We keep traps in the garage, about a dozen of them and we have caught our share of them. They are persistent and can crawl through spaces that would seem impossible to go through. I was lucky.

Conclusion to the repair story (I like conclusions on other posts to see how it finally ended). Ended up being in the shop for 3 weeks. Total cost $3,500. Insurance paid $2,800 of it under comprehensive. They had to lower the engine and I think the fuel tank. I see they replaced the engine coolant so that was involved. 20 hours of labor and about $500 in parts. Watch out for rodents!
