Hood lubrication question....
Hello all, my quick question is what to lube the the hood looking shocks absorber things inside our hood, to make it silent. When I open or close my hood , one of the sides always makes noise. I tried WD-40, but unfortunately that did not work. Please be kind enough to give me other advice to silent the up and down movement of my hood. Thanks in advance!
WD40 wont help as it is water based.
Clean piston well (can use WD40 for this), then add a drop of bicycle chain oil or similar, at top of strut, try and let it sit and hopefully flows onto the rubber seals below cap. Add oil to the piston. Lift hood up and down a few times. If it does not help, may consider replacing them. Pretty easy to do.

It's probably dying a slow death and should just be replaced.
I have now oiled all the rubber spots with garage opener lubricant , but with no help. It almost seems like rubber is rubbing against rubber when opening the hood, it is on the right side when looking inside the hood ,the right side seems to have more going on then the left side does , if that makes sense. Anyways, any help would be appreciated!
My rears died and were replaced in 30 seconds... The fronts are slowly failing (silently though). My car is a MY 2013. I'd be annoyed on a 2016.
Then again - porsche hood shocks have been crap since 1964 :-) why change now?

Ummm... WD40 is not water-based, there's no water in it at all (?!). Agreed it isn't a good lubricant for this type of thing though.

I had to change the ones on my 2009, easy and cheap. But yeah the dealer should handle it for free, but it probably isn't worth the time and effort to drop it off and leave it with them... unless they have fun loaners you'd like to drive.

Slightly off topic, but WD40 is not water based and it is a lubricant. The WD stands for "water displacing" and the 40 is the 40th attempt to develop it. The actual formula is a secret and is why it has never been patented.
my 4 months new 2018 car also has this problem... maybe i should take it into the dealer? But with all the horror stories around and how they manage to get my macan in an accident i have always been hesitant to just "take it to the dealer"...
Isn't it crazy that people are afraid to take their cars to the dealer to get warranty stuff done because the dealers are so lame caring for other peoples' property. I am not disagreeing with you, but so many horror stories about dealership screwups -- it really is amazing. Surprised so many screwups happen, after all, isn't that how most dealerships make their money, off of service and not selling cars?

Should be real simple, and cheap, to replace.
