What is done a new car upon port arrival?
As many of you probably know (since I say in almost every post) I am waiting on my Targa GTS to arrive, in a month or so. I have never heard what exactly happens at the port when it arrives so does someone have first hand knowledge? The dealer does the PDI but I assume that someone looks the car over but do they actually do anything such as fix a scratch? And how do they work for, Porsche or a contractor?

They inspect the car, check to make sure the emission setup is correct for the country that is importing it, add options to the car not added at the factory, and
yes, they do fix scratches and dents. They have quite the body shop there.
They then park it for a while until transport in available for shipping to the dealer.

Porsche lost a sale on my end when my car had damage that occurred on the ship/port. Couldn't buy a brand new car that had bumper/fender/headlight damage before it was even programmed to be driven.
They have inspectors, porters, a body shop and quality control employees there. If your car gets delayed at the port be cautious.. The dealer won't disclose everything.

Wow, beyond how many days would be considered a “delay” which may involve some sort of mishap? Curious as well about options installed at port as opposed to at factory.
My ship just cleared the Panama Canal a few hours ago, so hopefully only 10 more days to SF!

Donuts, donuts everywhere. Vast expanse of pavement.

During the big GT3 debacle weren't they even swapping engines at the port?

Jacksonville FL is a big port where all kinds of products are loaded and off-loaded. There are huge parking lots that hold vehicles there that I have seen but that is all I know and the reason I am asking. But if they are damaged in transit someone has to fix them at the port, and install some options as another posted, which must be done is some sort of repair center, at the port.

Better off not knowing since I’ve heard many horror stories about what goes on behind the scenes. Chances are many of us would not take delivery if we were privy to seeing it.
What is most upsetting is the fact that they don’t have to disclose this stuff.
Probably need a PPI on these new cars as much when buying used.

I dug my nose as deep as I could and got it out of my SA. I felt bad pressuring so much but I had major suspicions. Turned out that I was right.
When the car arrived at the dealer I got to take a look at it again fresh off the truck. Aside from looking dusty it looked 100% spot on. It didn't have any white plastics on the side where the damage occurred. There was also a small black stain on the luxor beige seat.
Interestingly to me, the car sold within a week of it sitting on the lot.
