Default Changing the hood crest

Inspired by a post from @Rennolazine, I decided to replace the hood Crest only Carrera T with an older style black/silver one that I think goes great with my GT Silver color scheme and the traditional 911T badge I have on the back grill.

Here are the steps to do it:

First, remove the black cover behind the latch on the hood.

There you can see thru the two holes the nuts holding the Crest.

Use an 8mm hex socket with a long driver to remove:

Remove the nuts with the hood horizontally flat, so when they come off, they drop down and not fall into the crevices of the hood!

After removing the old Crest, take off the rubber gasket from the old Crest and move it to the new one.

Use these nuts to secure the new crest:

And here's what it looks like now!

Enjoy!

Sorry guys! Was posting using the Garage Talk app for Android (really buggy) and had all sorts of issues adding pictures. Had to edit with the browser version to finish the post.

Looks good, and I was just toying with you...I knew something had to interrupt you.

Why the new nuts?

And do you have a part# for the emblem or link to where you got it? There is a guy that refinishes them but he is hard to reach and he is not cheap for what the end product looks like.

No worries, I knew you were all joking!

I got it from that same guy but from eBay. Took about 20 days to get it, but the fit and finish is excellent!

The nuts have some sort of rubbery material that gets destroyed once you remove the old nuts.

For $3 you can't go wrong getting new ones!

He does do nice work. I asked about a hood crest and 4 for the wheels at $725 but he would use Miami Blue as well. Ideally I would like to get the steering wheel crest done as well but I don't think he does those anymore so I am debating whether to do any at all now...just the kinda guy I am.

I tried this as well, but the pins were not located properly for my 991.2. Didn’t line up properly, through it out.

Looks great and thanks for the tutorial.
I’ve had three custom hood crests from the same guy. His work is excellent and I have received nothing but positive comments on them. If you drop a nut in the hood frame, a magnet will fish them right out.

Looks really, really good. Ties in nicely with the color and the ones on the wheels.

The guy I used is Carrera East Studio. Not cheap but work is beautiful and fit perfect. I have a GT Silver with lots of black trim so I wanted mine darker.

Again, why the new nuts? From what I heard people reuse the nuts that come with the stock hood crest.

Looks great. FWIW I have reused the nuts now three times, no problem. For $3 go for it. It was more of the hassle to go get the three nuts. Not exactly at the local hardware store.
