so I think I found the culprit- rev limiter in reverse. Searched the forums and saw that others were having the issue. Sure enough, the car started shaking once it hit the 2k mark and it was limited to that. It only goes past the 2k mark if you have enough momentum backwards, but when initially starting reverse or even with clutch fully applied but gear box in reverse, car will rev limit at 2k.
A bit of a weird feature since it makes the car feel unnatural, but its by design. Confirmed w others with 991.2s.
Is this true? This could explain a couple of odd experiences I've had with my 991.2. Last winter on a cold night, so the car starts up at a high (higher?) idle, plus backing up slightly up hill, plus manual. ...and the engine was sputtering in reverse. Giving it MORE POWER didn't help any, and just made it worse. No issue in 1st gear, tried reverse again and same issue.
I took it to the dealer and they looked at me crazy saying "why would reverse be any different?" ...but I had them scan for codes anyway, but nothing came up.
hmm... I may have to experiment with this some more.
OK thanks for the acorns link. It appears to be the same issue I'm having, where it "feels" like running over acorns or small rocks, but it's the tires. I believe I observed it again yesterday while going around a tight traffic circle, but of course that was while I was going forward. I want to try it again to determine if it was my imagination.
