LED vs. HID
Sorry all if this was posted here before. On my '17 911 build, I added them in because I thought they might be better. Now with trying to settle on my current configuration and may not have a discount on a package deal. Are they worth the $2800 upgrade. Since both of our cars have LED's I had forgotten how much better they appeared to be, but leave it to Nick Murray to quantify the difference. Yes, this upgrade is worth the price.

Its the one option I wish I chose. I went with Xenon and cannot retrofit to LED now, they say its IMPOSSIBLE.
I prefer the black LED ring to the Silver Xenon, but whats done is done..

I learnt a difficult lesson on my o7 MDX elite. Truck was 15 months old. It went in for a regular service.
A headlight bulb was also out. So, I thought oil change, and bulb under warranty. NOPE.
Light bulbs were covered under 12 month warranty. Though the rest of the car was 4/80,000km.
Oh, whatever. Need a bulb. Put a bulb in. NOPE.
It was a Xenon bulb. Price of Xenon bulb? $495 dollars and a little smaller than a lipstick box.
To add insult to injury. Plus six hours to install. As it is a non serviceable item and required disassembly of the front clip to access.
After three days or fighting/negotiating with honda HO, they gave me the bulb, and the dealer felt sorry for me and charged me 2 hours.
Lesson learned. I check the fine print on my warranty's, and extended warranty's. And I bring that very story up.

I will remain in a state of "I don't know what I'm missing". My HIDs appear to light up the road ahead like daytime and follow the turns of my steering wheel nicely. And I have had two Audis with LED and while I think they are fantastic, I don't think they are any better than my 911 HID lamps.

The difference in performance may or may not be negligible, but the black LED PDLS lights are the best looking of all the options. They look sharp on the car, very aggressive looking. Headlights are the eyes of any car after all. They're a $3500 option however, Porsche's opinion is obviously that they look the best as well.

Mine came with it on the Premium Packagr Plus. They are in black and look great. My night vision hasn’t been good since I had chemo back in 2000. Both HID and LED help me a lot but LED gives a more daylight appearance. Very nice I’m super happy I have them. The anti-dazzle is really addictive but not always perfect. When it over reacts to a street sign it doesn’t recover quick enough since a second can make a huge difference when a deer is getting ready to run in front of me.

I have HID on my 911 and every time I drive my LED equipped Mercedes I noticed the light is much better. I bought mine used so no choice, but if I order a new one I would go with LEDs. Not sure why its quite a rare option on 911s, maybe because of price? As a bonus the LED headlights look super cool!

I'm also in the pro-LED camp.
I prefer the cooler color output and uniformity of the beam is nice. They should last the lifetime of the car as well but can fail like any other part. It'd be a painful expense cover a failed lamp out of warranty, that's for sure.
HID lights were great when they were new, but are really dated now and, IMO, look it. I'd still get them if I wasn't ordering and didn't spec the car myself and I completely understand why some would forgo LEDs entirely due to the cost or preferring the look.

I opted for the Premium Package Plus which came with the LEDs on my Wifes Cayenne S and we couldn't be happier with them as we live
in the country with lots of Deer crossing roads at night. Its a must imo!

I got them since I want my Miami Blue Targa GTS to be just that and Black. If I had not selected option XEY I would have received Gray rings on the headlights vice Black so it was worth the money to me. I could have bought decals to cover the Gray rings but in my opinion decals will not cut it on such a car.

The LEDs on my GT3 are so bright I need sunglasses to read road signs - seriously. I'm so glad that I have them when driving mountain roads at night - I avoided two animals that darted out in front of me in one trip last week because I was able to see them lurking in the brush. They seemed expensive up until that point.
