Default Side mirror issue... is this normal?

I just recently bought my first Porsche. I've been a long time BMW guy and sold my e92 M3 to buy a 2013 Carrera S. Anyone else have side view mirrors that look discolored in the center like in the picture? Both of my side view mirrors are like this. I'm thinking its not normal. Mirror glass needs replacing? On a side note... seeing the 911s wide hips in my side view mirror is freaking amazing!

Maybe a malfunction in the dimming feature? And on a sidenote, you need to adjust your mirrors better. You have a huge blind spot. You should just barely see the rear hips with a proper mirror setting.

Thanks… my mirrors aren't that far in... I had my camera pointed at an angle so as to show the cars rear fenders in the pic.

Some ceramic coatings will discolour the mirror glass if the heated mirror function is used excessively.

This is a warm weather car... 1st owner was in FL for 3 yrs... 2nd owner in TX for 1 year. I doubt the mirrors needed to be heated that often. Maybe a fuse?

It does get cold/humid enough here to turn on the rear window defroster that triggers the mirror to heat.

This. The mirrors come on with the rear glass. Even in warm areas I can see some folks using their defrost function

I thought it was from the auto dimming and not the heater. My 997 had that and I thought it looked cool. I considered normal in my car. Just google auto dimming side mirrors and you will see that they all look like that to some degree. Yours does look a little darker ..I do not know if there is a light sensor somewhere that controls the dimming feature.

I would agree - auto dimming malfunction. I double-checked my mirrors and they are not near the color that appears in your pic. Does it dim/un-dim at night time or does it always act like a car with its lights on is behind you? What does your rear view mirror look like? If that is also darker perhaps the light sensor is bad (assuming there is some sort of daylight sensor).

I haven't payed much attention to whether its dimmed at night as I haven't driven it at night much at all. I do know that the rear view mirror is not colored the way the 2 side mirrors are colored.

Completely normal. Depends on how the light hits them in the daylight. I see this as I am backing out of the garage but really don't notice it much other than that.

Too uniform to be discoloration or heat affected. I'll look at mine in the morning but dimming seems like the best guess.

I bet it is the auto dimming function. Easy way to find out - turn off the auto function by pushing the button to the left on your rear view mirror. If the discoloration disappears after 5-10 seconds, you have your answer. Do the same while driving at night and you will see there is a "night and day" difference in the light reflection with the auto dimmers on and off.

Yeah... I tried turning it off... light brown hue is still there even when its shut off or the car is off. If I shine my phone led at the rearview mirror where sensor is while auto dimming is on... the light brown hue changes to a blue tinted hue. Maybe thats just how it's supposed to be. I need to peep someone else's 991 and see if theirs is the same.
