My first time I drained it for 30 minutes and it took 8.75 qts to top up. The next 2 were both hourlong drains and took 9.2 qts. This is for a '17 and I switched to 5/50 to compare Blackstone results.

Good job. I changed my oil for the second time a few weeks ago. It's the one time in the year I get to see the engine. I completely spaced out collecting the sample to send to Blackstone (age related). Next year. I drained mine for over an hour and it took nine quarts, which filled it to the top of the register.
Nice color, by the way.

So for others thinking about it, just do it, pretty easy. I did have to buy race ramps, metric torque wrench, and some other small things but I am still $150 ahead of the $450 charged at the dealer and i didn’t have to worry about issues at the dealer. Going forward oil changes will cost me about $80.00 plus I needed a metric torque wrench and the race ramp anyway.

So I used 3” ramps on the rear only, drained for about 2 hours. I initially put in 8 quarts, (rather add more than take it out). After start up I took a measurement after what seemed like forever, I was just about the minimum measurement, message said add 1.3 quarts. So I added one more quart now I am just under the top max. So I still need a little more. I then measured what came out, its 9 quarts, and about 10-15 ozs, going to measure exactly tomorrow. So it looks like the exact amount needs to go in that came out. This will help a lot next time, just did not want to overfill this time.

So what’s the purpose of sending your oil out for analysis?? What’s the cost, turn around, and how much do they need?

Thanks for all the advice.

The cost is $28 - Blackstone will send you a kit https://www.blackstone-labs.com/free-test-kits.php

By the way, the technique they recommend is that you take the sample mid-drain, so you might want to check with them on how to best get your sample from your oil which is already out. Might not be worth it this go-round anyway since the break-in will have resulted in a lot more metallic impurities that later once the engine is worn-in. All that said, I'm going to do a change at 1200 miles and will send a sample in.

Easiest 911 Oil Change I've ever done. But then again, it was my first water-cooled oil change :-) Nothing like an easy to reach filter, and only one of them!

cheers!
Any particular reason you went with Motul 8100 instead of M1?

Follow up. I why am I getting a msg stating oil change when starting the car, it’s there for a brief moment then cleaners, I also saw something about maintenance in 17,600 miles or 8/2019? How are these cleared? I am only at 2,388 miles.

Thanks.

still adding oil to get it back 100% filled to max, do not want to overfill, I think I need another 8-10oz, next time will be much easier.

yep, need to reset service reminder for oil each year or 10000 miles. Suggest either Durametric ( which does work on 991.2) or iCarsoft ? tool which is cheaper.

Each bar is about 400ml. Add about 200ml between drive cycles (with oil temps above 215 for max expansion) till you get the level you desire.

note the “red line”I added to th photo, thats were I was last night, I added 4oz this morning. Hope I am getting close.

I'd leave it as is. Really no need to fill it up to the top. Mine is 2 bars below max, and I am fine with that.

What are these bars you guys are talking about? Perhaps the 991.1 oil measurement display is more precise.

5 week oil change birthday...lol 1250 miles. Blackstone report coming to your inbox Lex
Gonna let them do the free inspection next spring but im putting in 0w50 next (0w40 in now through the winter).
Drained it 60 min.. 8.5 quarts got it halfway between min and max (so roughly 9 capacity). Any reason to fill it up more now? I run sport mode alot and ive read on macan forum oil expands in the winter if it gets driven regularly but doesnt get hot enough to evaporate water.

Also... my filter had some very tiny shavings you could only see with sunlight, maybe 1 or 2 every couple inches of folds. Im assuming this is not uncommon for new engines but should go away.
..too small to photograph
