a friend of mine LOVES my 2018 Targa 4s and has found a used one (also 2018) that appears to be in excellent condition with 7000 miles. He asked me what a good price would be and I have no idea about used car values. The sticker was "a little" over $150K according to the seller. Anyone have an idea what a good price would be before he drives 600 miles to see the car?

no, he doesn't want to contact the seller unless he decides he is interested and that is all the info he has. My car was about the same price (my sticker was $147 and has about $15k in options but is a manual trans, I am certain that this one is a PDK . I think my friend just wants to get a "guestimate" from someone who has more knowledge than he (or I) about the used values of 911's. I would guess a price just under $120K but I have absolutely no experience in dealing or pricing used cars... especially a 911

I would start with an offer of 20-25% off MSRP and go from there unless the car has a bunch of undesirable options. Probably 20% under is fair. I personally would not pay more than 15% under. If the car has clear bra that was done well I might factor that in.

I recently was shopping a pre owned 2018 Carrera T that was about 11-12% under. It was one owner, titled for 6 weeks with 600 miles or so.

New from the dealer most of these cars can be had for 5% off without much effort.

Thanks classJ … that is what I was looking for... I will pass that on to him. the $120K(15% under MSRP) number seemed reasonable to me even though I had no basis for it. If he goes ahead, he will get more information. I will probably suggest he offer 115 and pay up to 120 if the car is as nice as the seller claims.

new from a dealer (last years model) 12%-20%

so 20%-25% doesn't seem too out of the range for the one originally mentioned.

All the numbers are highly dependent on options, color, geography.........

THANKS SPIDERV6.... you guys have given me enough that I am comfortable suggesting that my friend offer at $110K and see where it goes from there... ASSUMING it is adequately optioned which he doesn't yet know. I would assume that if it was stickered in the $150K range it would be pretty well optioned including the PDK. Like I said, mine was 147 with manual tranny and has all the good stuff on it.

There are few used 991.2 4S Targa for sale. I'll be surprised if your friend does not get a hang up on that call, offering $110k.
Supply & Demand. If we were in a recession, maybe he could snag one for that price. And these cars aren't typically coming off lease yet.

And there are not many Targas compared to other 911 variations - one dealer told me that about 1 of very 8 911s is a Targa.

Would a NEW 2018 at this time of year be considered current model year or last years model ? ( obviously 2019's are starting to arrive )

Thanks BOBZ.... I have forwarded that site to him. I am trying to stay out of this deal, since I have NO experience dealing in used cars, ESPECIALLY used 911's. I sent it to him and told him he was on his own from there. THANKS to everyone who contributed.

If the '19s are now arriving or you can only order a '19 (I'm not that close to the details on the newest model release) then 2018's are now leftovers from the previous model year. No dealer is ever going to refer to a new 2018 as a leftover!!

It's important to know for any leftover model if/when the warranty was started. That happens when the dealer marks a slow moving car as "sold" to achieve some kind of Porsche sales target or as part of a PCNA incentive to move the car. At that point the warranty clock is ticking and that's where you can start to negotiate decent discounts (last years car, slow moving, dealer already got a kicker from PCNA). It's still a new car, but you need to know if the warranty is punched.

warranty was not started...dealer is using the tactic that even though 2019's are starting to arrive Targa's are not in this wave of cars arriving so is claiming it's a current model year....my contention is that if I buy it and then sell in 6 months for all practical purposes it is now a last model year and I should be getting a price that reflects that.
Therefore, what % off is to be expected ?

Without knowing the color, options, warranty start date, condition, extras, etc. I would say $125k, but that is just an educated guess based on what I have seen for sale and not knowing the aforementioned items.
