Default Considering this 2017 991.2 Launch Vehicle...

I'm thinking about buying a 2017 Carrera that has 3,000 miles on it. I have to travel across the country to get it, but the price is very good so I'm thinking to just go for it.

I ran the build sheet here from the VIN and noticed that this is a launch vehicle. The carfax is clean, but the dealer got it 3/31/2016 and the dude didn't buy it from the dealer until 8/24/2017 with 600 miles on it. So it was a demo at the dealer for 16 months & 600 miles. The dude probably got it for a good discount.

So:
1. Do I care that it was a demo / launch vehicle? Did every test drive (during the 1000 mile break in period) start with a cold oil launch control? Is it possible the car's been tainted?
2. I've had 2 caymans but never a 911. When I get to the car at this guys house, what are the top things to look for specific to a 2017 911 with 3000 miles on it that could indicate a problem?

Please let me know your thoughts. This may all go down in the next couple of days.

Peace.

Launch vehicles are not necessarily demo cars. Just highly specced from the factory as the first set of cars for dealers.

I think you are fine. You still have a warranty.

Have you seen the build sheet. That could be a great deal if it is really spec'd up.The only thing I would be concerned about (well I'm **** about this stuff) is all the wear from everyone and their uncle getting in and out of the car. My car had a July 2016 build date and I didn't buy it until March of 2018! Since I plan on keeping a Porsche for the first time I'm not too concerned it is already two years old.

$31k of sticker with 3,000 miles. If it isn't rough around the edges and equipped to your liking, sounds like a no brainer to me. If you look at some of the recent threads here, most people are very happy with their "base" Carreras- myself included. I'd get on plane to lay eyes on it if you have any worries...you won't regret the trip if you see something not to your liking. Good luck, and it will be worth it when it is in your garage.

Thanks -- my thoughts exactly. I talked to the owner this morning and it sounds like this is a toy that is just never used. If it looks good, smells good and drives well... I'll bring it home. Thanks for the words.

ps - regarding the "base" part of things... I'm only using the car for a DD with a typical year at 8,000 miles or so. No weekend driving, just back and forth to work. My current Audi TT is a blast to drive (5.2 0-60) so too much more than a base model would be pointless.

Just another data point, I was considering a CPO GTS not too long ago, and had a fleeting thought to trade in my $104k Carrera with about 3k miles at the time. Dealer offered me $78k. No thanks, am happy to keep my car. I totally agree about usefulness of the base, you'll run circles around all the retirees in their Crown Vics and Camrys.
By the way, love the Sarasota area. My folks lived down there for many years. Nice place to live.

You got that right. Moved down here in 1993 from Indiana. It's like a different country. The people with all the money like to keep the blacktop new so it's a nice smooth ride for guys like me.

I bought my 991.2 Carrera S in May 18. Originally registered to dealer December 16, then sold to it's last owner after 6 days. Mega-spec and only 1,659 miles. Dealer assured me it was as new totally unmarked so we did a deal over the phone and paid upfront. After I collected it 200 miles away, I found driver's seat scuffed (looked like a fat man getting out with keys in hand scuffed the bolster), two dings in the rear wing (maybe he fell over) and front lower valance beneath bumper scraped (speed bumps or steep driveway presumably). Fortunately an official Porsche dealer so all sorted very nicely.
