Default theres a hole in the carpet under the seat on my 991.1 gts, is this normal

I started hearing a lose screw rolling a rolling around. So I tried to feel around under the seat to see if there's a screw I could feel. Not only was there no screw but theres a hole in the carpet . It's a machined hole so I'm just wondering if this is normal and why there's no cap ? Any thoughts??!

Yeah thats normal. I have a feeling that is where one of the wiring harnesses goes into the carpet.

There is might be electronics in there. I haven't explored it in the 991 models, but in the 997.2 the optional telephone module was installed down in that hole on the passenger side. And yes, crap can fall down in there and be hard to fish out.

Trying using a magnet to dish out anything metal that has dropped in.

Out of curiosity I took a closer look at the shop manuals and see that the rear end electronics module and the optional air lift control module are under there. There might be other things too.

It’s where the optional remote radar detector and laser jammer modules go. Ask your dealer about it

How can there be no caps for these holes?

If there are any electronics beneath, the holes might serve to vent heat.

I'd be cautious using a powerful magnet near electronics.

Caps = unnecessary weight.

On the 997 models, it was a single large gaping pit under the passenger seat and even more stuff would fall in, so I guess they thought this was better. It does seem like a breathable mesh over the holes would be better though.

Modern electronics aren't typically affected by magnets unless they have a built-in compass, and even then only momentarily. People even use magnetic phone mounts and all phones have solid-state compasses now.

I was more thinking of one of those mechanics' snakes with a small rare earth magnet on the tip used for fishing screws/nuts/bolts out of engine crevices.
