I can't get over how absolutely terrible the Bose is
Earlier this week I drove a rental Ford Fusion (MSRP: $22K) for a couple of days, and the stereo was awesome. Crisp and powerful, tight bass, clean sound. I'm no audiophile, but to my ears it was excellent in every way. Get into my 991S w/ $1,500 Bose option ($1,500 is 7 percent of the price of an entire Ford Fusion) and was smacked in the face anew with what an abject failure the Bose system is. The sound is comically over-bassed. I run the equalizer at -3 bass and +1 treble to try to even it out, and the music is still overwhelmed by bass. And not even tight bass like in the Fusion. This is sloppy, cheap bass, like a high school kid's Honda Civic with $30 Walmart speakers. The bass sounds like it's everywhere, all the time. There is no clarity in any part of the spectrum, not midrange or treble. Speaking of treble, there basically isn't any. It's just not there. All voices boom. Everything sounds loud but somehow muffled. It's a sloppy joe, a wet sponge, a mess of a stereo system. I'm embarrassed for Porsche. How did this dumpster fire get approved for sale to the public?

did you read the manual???? there are a couple of check boxes you need to click e.g. surround sound off and one other - then it sounds pretty good.

The Ford Fusion also has better cup holders

Agreed, its garbage. My work Sequoia with some budget Amazon speakers shames the Bose in the 911.
Not sure if the tweeter upgrade is worth it. You cant sample the sound through a video or someone recording the audio playback
Every once in a while I'll catch a random song that does sound good though.

Mine sounds much better using Apple carplay, Linear mode and surround. I think it sounds fantastic.
....but then again I have the .2 which is better in every way.

It starts with the source material. Pandora, Sirius etc most likely won't sound great on anything.

The sound system in my current car is the worst I have experienced after owning over 40 cars going back tp the very early 70's. Oh, and this system is not the basic, it is the optioned audio system. What a waste, I don't even turn the radio on anymore. If this car was a DD, I would be very unhappy.

I very much enjoy my Bose with the upgraded MusiCar Tweeters. When I sing along to country music songs, we've never sounded better.

.1 and mind sounds great. I run my bass on +1 only and that is about max i'll do because it does have more of a bass rattle with it tuned up but other than that I would have to say it is crisp and clear. Definitely agree that the source of the music does have a big part in overall quality. I don't run music apps or use the radio much as I have all of my music ripped pretty much. Granted I am also coming out of a 996 with no bose where I had to use aux through a becker cord that would act up so anything would sound good after that!

Sounds good enough to me in my 991.2. I've heard the system in the 991.2 is improved over the 991.1, but even the Bose in my 991.1 GT3 sounded OK with the right source as someone mentioned. Radio/SiriusXM sounds like junk.
