What road noise? Lol, this is pretty funny actually. Let's add weight to sports car because it sounds like a sports car. Why even get a sports car? Historically, Porsche buyers were busy stripping off weight and making them louder.

Trying to make a 991 even quieter. Lol.

And here I am trying to figure out what insulation can be removed to further be in tune with the car.

This is very nice work. The car can surely use less road noise. All other noise complaints can be solved with switching to the new 3.0L TT engine!

No offense taken from the usual peanut gallery. When I was younger I had different priorities, and did things like strip out noise insullation (and, of course, modify the exhaust for "better" sound).

I bought my 991 to use for touring as well as more aggressive driving. In this role, the right balance of noise and performance is biased more towards comfort--at least for me.

Nice project. The rear wheel wells seem to be where most of the noise comes from in my car. Do you think there would be a noticeable difference from doing only the rear? I feel like I hear little rocks/debris hitting in this area all the time.

I did the same process with my C7 z51 but saw no need for my 17 c2s as it is quieter stock than my Corvette was after the sound insulation. I can attest it made a difference on the c7.

I did the same mod to my 991TTS and it made a significant improvement. Before the mod the noise was everywhere. After the mod the noise sounds like it's all coming from the rear. Great job documenting the process bkrantz, I seem to always get so involved I forget to take pictures.

Thanks, Jim. I have the same problem sometimes, and forget photos in the middle of the job I started documenting. And since some of these jobs are discovery, by the time I am half-done I learn a better way (but am too lazy to restage what I have already photographed).

Default porsche isn’t for you...

You should buy an Audi... or Benz... or BMW...

or or if you feel the need to say you have a Porsche, a Macan or Cayenne.

That'a a complete BS statement:

I guess I fail to see the hate with someone adding noise containment materials to their 911. Had the same hate on the Corvette forum. One thing is obvious, a higher overall buyer demographic doesn’t filter out the dumbass statements made by some. Most of those that complain about a person adding 20-30 lbs to their car are those that could most likely stand to lose that much weight or more personally. Additionally, most people on this or the Corvette forum aren’t good enough on the track to make a difference anyway. I would like to know how many people that bitch about the added weight actually make their living on a race track.....I would venture zero! Okay.....now I feel better!

Totally!

Not to mention the weight added by sunroofs, convertibles, and Targas--high up on the car no less.

Then there's the 21-inch wheel crowd, all of the extra weight being unsprung.

how is is that? You bought a sports car but don’t want the noise associated with it? You knew it going in. 305 Tire’s, Weight, etc.

A grand touring sportier car like above would be a great fit for you. S5, m4, e63s, etc. nothing wrong with it, all great cars, great handling and generally less road noise.

So I assume that as a true sports car driver, you have pulled out all excess weight, like AC and ventilation, audio and infotainment, carpeting, passenger seat, etc.

Have you ever driven a real race car (not a production-based track car)? My SCCA Spec Racer, not a lightweight at 1500 lbs but still pretty bare bones, had a square tube frame, plain fiberglass seat, and a thin aluminum belly pan. Front and rear body sections were attached with pins and spring clips. Suspension was minimal. Rolling along to grid it sounded like a hail storm on crate of tin cans. On the track it was glorious, and the only sounds l paid attention too were from the engine and the open exhaust.

That was then and there. My 991 is here and now, and if my preferences and mods offend your purist idealism, too bad.
