I find that whatever is safe and effective for my wheels also applys to my calipers. No special cleaner required.

Pull wheels off.
Warm soap and water.
Coat with Optimum Gloss Coat.
Future cleanings much easier and wheels on.
Once a year repeat from top.

Just use a wheel brightener from Maguaires or similar. Just like on the rest of the wheel, get in there and mechanically clean the caliper along with the interior of the wheel.
This is a seemingly a big deal to do with every wash of the car, but if you TRY to do it every time and happen to miss a few spots, between every few times you will get everything, and it'a all about never letting something get perpetually untouched.
Obviously its not necessary to take the wheel off to clean the easily accessible caliper or the wheel interior.
