In order of priority - driver, tires, suspension, brakes, weight.

Just use racing specs for 991.2 GTS. So, upgrade the tires, upgrade the suspension, upgrade the brakes, and upgrade aerodynamics. And, reduce the weight by throwing out back seats. And, ECU flash. Seems easier to just get a GT3.

GTS, GT3, it does not matter, they both will out perform more than 99% of the drivers in this forum.
Anyone who has ever put down times knows the main the differences that really matter are the level of driver experience and skill. Going to a few DE days does not suddenly turn a beginner in a GT3 into Lars Kern or Nick Tandy. A good club driver in a Cayman S will put many, many seconds on a guy in a GTS/GT3 who has limited or DE type experience.

The OP wants to know the most important modifications - there is one answer and one modification needed and that is the driver.

Gotta stop turning every mod thread into a "become a better driver first" message - it's getting very repetitive.

The reason it keeps coming up is that driver skill can't be mended by hardware. Every post that reads "become a better driver first" is the best message anyone can post. It makes you faster, but more importantly safer.

Sure, but the question was about the hardware. It's annoying to always read the endless "take driving lessons" posts that have nothing to do with the subject.

lets assume all driver skill equal.

i think GTS with chip tune and good set of tires will be enough to have alot of, i mean alot of, fun against Gt-3. just only getting good tires on a GTS can have alot of fun with GT-3, if driver skills aren't as equal

I mean in a modification thread - that should be the default assumption for any reasonable comparison anyways right?

Proper driving in both, GT3 would likely annihilate a GTS, I don't think anybody could argue against that - modded GTS w suspension and break bits and tires, probably not so much. And you likely have a better allrounder.

I'm running my C4S out there on track as frequently as my schedule allows, all I have is Cup2s and a few suspension bits (and a slow .1 mind you ) - I feel like i'm giving Turbos and GT3s a decent run for their money (or at least I'm not getting totally destroyed) and I do assume similar skill which in a HPDE environment is not a bad assumption since people (as best as it can be done) are grouped by their skill level.

Just let the guy have fun modifying his car. All this stuff is bolt on - if he doesn't like it he turns it back to stock who cares.

Gotta be in peace w being a slow driver in a fast car sometimes - better than being a slow driver in a slow car.

at my local track, in Korea, if you run sub 2 min. you are considered pretty good. i drive my GTS easy sub 2min, being i'm blessed with such a nice car, and the Gt-3 guys run easy sub 1:50 laps. the track head and license instructor, though, runs the track at sub 2 min on a 150 hp Hyundai i30. i've seen it.

so yeah these types of posts are fun. and there are ways an average joe can outbeat a Gt-3 with a modded GTS, but hey, a really good driver can beat both with a Hyundai i30.

Its kind of funny too because ironically the best drivers don't even have the dough to be able to buy a GT3 or GTS new. I remember at the PEC LA, I talked to my driving 'coach' . Remember these guys are all up and coming Porsche factory drivers. I asked him if he had a Porsche as his daily. He said, not. He rides a bike to work.

Far from it....just saying. The best drivers are usually not the one driving brand new P cars. Why?? Because they spend more time driving (practicing) than accumulating money in a professional setting.

If we are talking drivers of the same skill level, it will depend on the skill level.

If both drivers are equally “un-skilled” drivers then I think a GTS times will be comparable or maybe even surpass (ie, lower) those of the GT3 because the GTS is an easier car to drive around a track for a beginner.

If, however, both drivers are adabced or intermediate group drivers, then I think the GT3 will be a much more obvious winner because a skilled driver can better and more easily exploit the chassis setup and the more aggressive suspension of the GT3.

Well if you want to remove any bias of driver skill, let’s think about what you’d have to do in order to match the GT3 in resale price.

You’re going to have to crash the GT3 quite badly.
