Rear diffuser.

Rear diffuser.
Is there any advantage to putting on a street car or would it be strictly decoration. I think if you eliminated your center muffler and got one to fit there may be some added down force. But it may be minimal due to the engine location. Thats why 991RSR went mid engine to improve rear diffuser effects. Looking for input from anyone who knows about these.

991RSR wen mid engine for handling purposes and why Porsche has been moving the street car versions engine forward as well.
Diffuser won't be noticeable on a car driven on the street...for track events a diffuser tied into proper front and rear aero will help...its this diffuser you are talking about is a real (wind tunnel tested/tuned) diffuser and you are somehow funneling air to it.

Actually, I recalled reading that they moved the engine forward largely for the diffuser effects, so Porsche0911 was correct about that. Quoting from the Jalopnik article linked below:
However, I think that mdrums is correct in that unless you are routinely ripping around at 120mph+ it probably doesn't come into play. For us mere mortal non-racers it is just for cosmetic purposes and maybe some tiny fraction of a gas mileage increase (since you can now see diffusers on some recent Econo-cars).
The reason for this change, as we know, was to accommodate a gigantic rear diffuser that was recently allowed for GTE-spec race cars. That diffuser sits where the bottom of the 911's rear engine usually sits. All of the changes were sparked by the need to fit in that rear diffuser and catch up to the rest of the cars the 911 RSR competes against.
