Do you guys know if the PCM needs a software update? will it require a visit to the dealer?

Great news....
cause I cannot get Google maps to work on either of my 911 or Macan the past few weeks through Porsche Connect.

Porsche Connect doesn't work on my .2 GTS. Registered online and everything with no success. All in all it seems gimicky and drains your data from what I've read. 150K car and I can't even get traffic updates/info. Leaning over to switching to iPhone.

This would be just fantastic if WAZE will work with Apple Car Play.

I would think that the update would only need to be applied to your phone. After all, iOS12 is an update to your iPhone not your PCM.

What amazes me is you can't get map and PCM updates free of charge. How hard is it to download a software or firmware update to a thumb drive and install it?

Yes, it is strange given that corporate brother Audi has free downloadable map updates for newer models.

PCM shouldn't need an update. One of the things that makes CarPlay good is that nearly all of the software is in the phone. All the head unit does is act as a mirror for the phone (basically).

Strange? The porsche pcm and the Audi mmi are the same hardware with obvious different software (same Federal registration number). Difference is that VAG knows they can milk a porsche owner far more.

Take a look on the BMW current connect drive options. I know, but a porsche to drive, but give me a break, charge for traffic (that is invariably outdated), maps and "connectivity" in 2018. We complain and squirm and still drink the cool aid.

That is fantastic news. Apple Maps looks pretty but it ain't nearly as good as Google Maps or Waze.

The real benefit for me is that I can look up locations in Google Maps on my laptop and send them directly to my iPhone to use with CarPlay.

Tread lightly on beta versions. I use to be a "invited " user for IOS and OS. Always screwed up my current apps and programs.
