Default dumb exhaust question

99111143707
I've a non PSE base exhaust system 991.1.
I'm having a hard time understanding why I can't remove the front muffler system and simply replace it with this? I know the valves won't work if you don't have all the "accessories" but, it has to sound better than the base system. Aren't the valves normally open anyway on this?

My opinion is that you should forego that piece, save the weight, buy a Sharkwerks bypass and a set of Fister mufflers (or send your mufflers to Darin Fister). Had that set up on my 997.2 and never looked back. It sounded amazing. That is what I would do if my car did not have PSE.

Noted and thank you very much. Never even heard of this option with Fister.

PSE is an expensive upgrade on a base since the center and side mufflers have to be replaced. Unless being able to switch modes is really important I agree that Fister or Sharkwerks would be a much more affordable solution.

I agree with awrryan, just buy a bypass X pipe from Shark Werks, AWE or FabSpeed and be done with it. A friend of mine just installed the FabSpeed X pipe on his 997.2 C2S and it's a nice improvement without being crazy loud. We both agree my 991.1 C2S with PSE sounds better but his sounds way better than stock using the X pipe.

Was that PSE center muffler removed from a car that caught on fire? My PSE is two years old and still bright silver in color.

Hi, I have the non PSE on my 991.1 S if you have the S version the side mufflers are the same, the vacuum hoses are there already, same with wiring for the switch. Need about 1300 in parts total and have the dealer activate the switch for about 200 bucks. This is my next upgrade, there is a couple DYI on this on Rennlist Good Luck!

my pleasure. Send me a private message if you need any assistance or have any questions. Had that set up on both my 996 and my 997.2. Both sound different (Different engines), but in my opinio , you will not be disappointed. The 997.2 sounds more like the 991.1.

No such thing as a dumb question, and most people don't know the answer to this one anyway haha.

The reason is because the side mufflers and exhaust tips are different on the PSE and S model Non-PSE cars to accept the valves open exhaust pipe into the backside of the exhaust tips. In order to run either of the two factory valved exhaust system on your car, you need side mufflers with outlet pipes that are offset and routed to the backside of dual inlet tips. Therefore you'll either need those factory PSE or S Model Non PSE side mufflers/tips or an aftermarket set in order to fit that valved center section. Give me a ring at 484 883 6197 and I'd be happy to go into a bit more detail about it. I am also very experienced with the different aftermarket options available, and would be happy to chat about your goals and set you up with the best option to meet them. An educated decision is the best decision

I'm not sure what the story is on that piece. It was more for reference to ask this question since it shows the actual piece I was referring to pretty well. Even though it looks like it might have been, I bet it'd still be fine. Seeing the x-pipe Sharkwerks / AWE / Fabspeed / etc.. probably cost close to the same preowned, might just drop this option.
