The Gentleman's GTS: Euro Delivery
After allocating, spec'ing, ordering, waiting (and waiting...), the delivery day has finally arrived! I had the pleasure of picking up my GTS in Zuffenhausen today, and I've got to admit that this is truly the way to get your car. Take the time - it is 110% worth it. The history and passion for the 911 here are palpable - it's the heart of Porsche. The basics of my spec are:
GTS
RWD
7-Speed
Sunroof Delete
PDCC
RAS
PCCB
Burmester
Graphite Blau
Graphite Leather with Blue Pepita Inserts
Lots of leather, lots of stitching, a touch of CF
The process leading here has been so rewarding, and I have met wonderful people on the US side of the Porsche sales team. That recognition and our general itinerary are here https://rennlist.com/forums/european...ay-2018-a.html.
This thread is more about the play-by-play. And, of course, the pictures!
We arrived STG this morning on the Delta flight we connected into heading out of ATL. The flight was lovely, and arriving directly at STG was remarkably convenient and comfortable overnight. Porsche offers a discount with Delta with ED, and I can recommend this flight to anyone picking up in Zuffenhausen.
The 2 Porsche taxi vouchers we were given (1 for airport to hotel, one for hotel to car pickup) were both readily accepted by our German-only taxi drivers. Smooth and easy, with no questioning the validity of the vouchers.
The hotel provided for 1 night by Porsche is the Althoff Hotel Am Schlossgarten. It's fantastic, with excellent front office staff. Quite comfortable. I would consider it a luxury business hotel, and it seems that they do a good deal of ED with both Porsche and Mercedes. Good garaged self-parking for my new car as well, which is super important to most of us.
Delivery is usually at 8:30 AM, but we picked up our car at 3 PM local time today because of a late scheduling snafu. Regardless, everyone, both at PCNA and PAG, were gracious and accommodating. 5 stars to the delivery staff - the treatment we received today as US ED customers was as-expected. We arrived Werk 1 at 12:30 PM (thinking we had a 1:30 PM pickup), but with pickup delayed until 3, we enjoyed the ED VIP Porsche-provided lunch today and toured the Museum some before the hand-over of the car. The Museum is gorgeous, and included as a self-guided potion of ED. We spent ~75 minutes there today, but it could easily be 2-3 hours+ if you and your guest have the time and want to learn.
We return tomorrow morning for the factory tour, and we will likely get lunch at the Museum restaurant Christophorus, then be on our way to Baden-Baden.
I haven't had a chance to exercise the car much yet with the traffic and construction in Stuttgart, but that is coming shortly. Naturally, that's going to be the best part of the next week!

Great looking car. I agree, ED is the way to go if you can make it happen. Did mine in early April, now waiting on the last leg of getting mine to the US. On a truck from the port to my dealer.

As I'm picking mine up in 2 weeks, I'm extremely curious -- how long did it take your car to make it back? Where did you drop it off?

Nice seats. I never knew you could get the hounds tooth except for 911-R.
