Default 991 Cracking/surface change headlights? (PDLS in Black)

This week I washed my 2014 991 CS, and noticed that my black PDLS headlights have some weird cracks/delamination. There's some cracks on the inside, but when sliding my fingers over the plastic there's a surface difference. Been searching the forum and found others that have had cracks in the corner, but not like this.

No wrapping or protection on the car. All natural.

I got CPO on my car, and will swing by the dealer, but just wanted to hear if others have had similar problems? It looks really weird.

You got CPO, go to dealer.

I have some of that on the 2015 GTS I just bought. I was going to have clear bra by Xpel applied, but on THEIR website to installers it warns of that and of delamination.

I just called a dealer and Porsche is replacing them on a case by case basis. I think it may take some pushing.

99% sure that is delamination/peeling of the UV coating layer, most typically from removal of PPF. Do you know for sure the prior owner (I see it is CPO) didn't have PPF that was removed before it was sold to you?

Same here. Cracking may be from heat gun too. These aren't getting covered by warranty. I'd go back to the dealer. Good luck getting them to cover it. They'll say car is pre-owned and bought as is.

To OP, didn't you see this when buying the car?? Not like it just popped up overnight.

My car had no clearbra on it at all. Porsche is pretty aware of this if they are replacing parts on a "case by case basis" which is in my opinion secret code for how will you are to accept them saying no to your request.

As it's CPO the dealer should be on the hook for that.

Have pics?

Was yours only the issue on the outer perimeter of the headlights?

Yep, another vote that this car probably had PPF on the headlights that was removed.

Why would you remove it? Ppf protects the headlights.... I have ppf on my cars and no issues. But I never removed them

My used 991S had a crappy PPF job on it. It had peeled and discolored. I recently had it replaced. But avoided changing out the film on the headlights for this reason.

My 2013 CS had this happen to both of my headlights and the dealer replaced them under warranty when I went in for the final service before I hit 50k miles. I think I first noticed the issue between the 40k and 50k services. I've never had PPF on my car and always washed it myself. I wondered if I had gotten too close with the pressure washer. Currently at 78k miles and the replacement headlights still look good.

On my previous 991, the prior owner had PPF'ed the headlights. The curvature-induced tension on the top edges of the PPF on one headlight had eventually pulled some of the coating off. The loose edge of the film looked bad (about ¼" of loose flap along the top). I had my local guys remove the rest of the film using steam heat but more of the coating pulled off in a strip about 2" long and a half inch wide. It looked like a more isolated case of OP's photo.

To prevent fading of the lens where the coating came off, I occasionally applied some off-the-shelf UV protectant made for headlight lenses. This seemed to keep it from getting hazy and helped make the damage less apparent. I don't think anyone else ever noticed it. No way I was going to PPF my new car's headlights after that.
