18 way seats have more padding?
I've seen 14 vs 18 way seats discussed before, but did not see if this in particular was addressed. I'm placing an order soon and need to choose b/n these two seats. One review I saw said the 18's have more padding. I sat in both and as far as padding goes I could not really see a difference. Do the 18's have more padding / cushioning? tks

The 4-way Adaptive Sport seats, which look just like the 18-way may have more padding since they don't have the additional motors underneath the seat. I don't know if it is due to the SportTex fabric on mine (4-way) but they definitely feel more cushioned than the 18-way as I tried them back to back... or bottom to bottom!

Stepping back - am I correct that the extra four ways (14-18) are side bolsters in/out and leg bolsters in/out? Just checking.

I have read elsewhere in this forum that adding the seat coolers and perhaps the seat heaters as well diminishes the padding as the cooling/heating system takes up space which is made up for by removing some padding. I don't have proof of this but this is what I have read in prior seating threads.

I do believe that the 4 ways are slightly more padded than the 18 ways. I have both versions of the sport plus seats (4 ways and the 18 ways). Both my cars have ventilation and heating and I wouldn’t buy a car without both features as I use them regularly. I find ventilation mandatory in my Boxster (resides in Fla.) but frankly, in the couple of months of 991 ownership, I’ve used the ventilation regularly and it hasnt yet been hot up here. Frankly, adjusting bolsters are not of much benefit to me but I do like the ability to lengthen the thigh extension for longer drives along with adjustable lumbar support.
Padding and bolstering are factors in choosing seats but ones build and perhaps agility should be considered when comparing the 14 ways to either of the sport plus seats. I found the sport plus version far more comfortable for me. At 5’9” and just shy of 170 (athletic build), I found the 14 ways felt narrow at my upper back even with less bolstering. I much prefer the better bolstering and even with a pending left hip replacement, do not have difficulty getting in and out.

I bought my car with 14 ways and kind of
Wish I had 18 ways. I'm a bigger guy and the back doesn't bother me but the lower cushion is definitely more forgiving / softer / more supportive / something on the 18 ways. Whatever it is, it's a difference.
Comparing vented seats to vented seats in showroom.

The sport tex seats are supposed to have more padding as well in the 18-ways. Highly recommend the 18-ways and full leather. Very comfortable for an average build.

18 ways are better. 14 ways have less padding it seems. I know the review you are speaking of, it is from Nick Murray. He has had both so I would trust his opinion. It could also be due to the sport tex though as someone else mentioned since that doesnt have vent built in.
What I would highly caution you on is the 4 ways if you have long legs. I have sat in 2 cars with 4 ways, and being 6'5" they just don't work. I actually passed on a car with them because your legs have no support leaving all of the pressure right on your butt which isnt too comfortable. The 14 ways and 18 ways which have thigh support (up and down in the front of the seat) distribute the weight more evenly.

I have AC 18-ways and do not care for them. I had 997 hardback sport seats in a previous 911, which look and are dimensionally almost identical to the 991 hardbacks. But the 997 variant (which I believe are basically the same as today's 4-way hardbacks) are amazingly good and comfortable seats. It's all because of the different cushioning.
